Played my GK Cup 10 match today at Chester against Cobra1788. Greens were in pretty decent shape. They looked really splotchy but actually rolled pretty well. They held their line with a well struck putt with medium/slow speed. Truthfully the greens felt spongy but very playable. One green 17 I believe (hdcp 2) front of the green was a little chewed up but the rest of the greens were in decent shape. First cut around the greens a little high so you could not lay your club next to the a ball resting or near the fringe. Fairways in decent shape. It had good coverage. Rough was thick and very penal. The ball would literally sink down so you had to be close enough to see your ball peeking through the thick rough or just loose it altogether. Bunkers well stocked with sand. Tee boxes would be my only complaint. I like to tee my ball low. The grass on the tee boxes were a little high so my ball would literally sit just about the grass. It was just visually strange but certainly playable. Pace of play 4 hours with a threesome behind us and a slow foursome in front. Overall course was in playable condition. Good pace of play with receptive greens and consistent putting surfaces.

Greens recently top dressed with remnants of a light coating of sand on every green. Greens rolled predictably. They were a lot firmer with medium fast speed. Hard to shake off what you saw though. I would see patterns on the greens from what appeared to be tire marks. Figure a couple of weeks before they disappear entirely.

Overall course is GREEN. I mean perfect coverage with some bald spots here and there. Rough is THICK and penalizing. First 4 holes were a bit long in the fairway so not a lot of roll out. Bunkers are in good shape with well stocked sand. Overall conditions here are better aside from the top dressing but very playable. Pace of play was around 4.5 hours as a single playing behind a five-some. Caught them after the third hole so I took my time which was fun in it's own guilty pleasure.

Walked the Blues (69.9/119/6321) with nodoubles22, kassper7 & Andrew in slightly more than 4.5 hours Sunday mid day. The weather was clear, breezy and hot. Fun to play with all walkers for the 1st time in awhile! It had been over 35 years since I last played here. I remembered almost none of the holes, my only recollection was that CW was a fun, not too demanding layout. Fairly wide open, the courses main defenses are the kikuyu and the small, sloping, hump backed greens. While the layout is decent, the course conditions are not. It appeared to our group that perhaps they waited too long after the wet winter to begin utilizing their water budget again, because the course was way too hard and thin with brown spots after the wet winter we just had. Looked and played more like what I would have expected to encounter last fall, before the rains. The tees looked like they had not been mowed in several days. The tee markers had not been regularly rotated, even non par 3 holes showed visible signs of wear between the markers. Definitely below average. The fairways were mostly thin and hard. Some bare spots and some lush areas, but below average overall. The rough was not high but it's still kikuyu. Tough to chip around the greens where it was thick/lush. Down the sides of the fairways it was much more thin than lush with hardpan areas mixed in. The sand traps I was in ranged from poor to good. Nice sand but they had not been regularly maintained. The small, humpbacked greens putted better than they looked, which is a very lukewarm endorsement at best. They were medium fast but very bumpy. It looked like they had not been getting enough water after the spring punching, which was still quite visible and affecting putts much longer afterward than you would normally expect. They were also very firm. I have putted on greens right after punching that were smoother than these. Easily the bumpiest greens I have putted on in quite some time. The customer service was good in the pro shop. Decent range and chipping area, but the putting green is even worse than most of the greens on the course. I realize it was a Sunday, but $40 to walk a course in this condition is extreme. There was not a single area of this course that was even average compared to the multitude of other courses I have experienced in the last 12-24 months. Recommended = Not until the greens significantly improve.

Played on Monday 3/27. Very similar to my Alondra review I just posted. Tee boxes are well covered and decent except for some clumpy-ness. Fairways are in good shape and the rough is too. Greens look pretty good and rolled about at a medium pace. Occasionally, there are some spots where you don't want to be above the hole, such as #5 and #6, because the downhill putts can be fast and not very true. Sand traps were nice and soft in the fairways and firm and hard greenside. Wish it was the opposite.

This was a twighlight round and the wind was up. Worth the money though.

Very Impressed with current situation here. Greens in good shape. Pace of play on a Saturday Afternoon was fantastic! And overall conditions really consistent. Greens were a little quick but once I figured I needed to lag these putts it was easy peasy. They rolled quick but held their line. Fairways had very good coverage not a lot of bare spots you would expect from a course that retains a lot of water. There were some thin lies but nothing to write home about and overall the coverage was pretty extensive. Rough they allowed to grow thick and punishing. Height was perhaps 2-3 inches taller along the sides of the fairways. Sand in bunkers were pretty nice hard packed for fairway bunkers and nice fluffy sand around green-side bunkers. Pace of play was brisk. Deal was spectacular not bad to finish 18 with a 2PM start at $16 which included cart. I was flying around the course and finished in just under 4 hours. Very happy with conditions and will be back for more golf.

When I lived in Westchester, I played here a lot, but since moving to Coto De Caza twenty years ago, I seldom get back, so it was nice to re-visit. (Plus I like using my LA County senior card, which makes the cost very appealing)

Not I lot to add to the prior review, except that the course was drier than I expected. (A few days of sunshine sure helps, but that's about to end I'm afraid) I was most impressed with the greens, as they were probably in as nice condition as I can remember. Playing early allowed for no pace of play issues. All in all a positive experience.

Played today but course is still very wet and muddy in all fairways. Greens were nice (nicest I have ever seen them), mowed and putted well. Some traps still have standing water in them. The maintenance crew was out and busy. With a few days of good sun the course will play nicely. But rain expected Fri Sat which could soak it all again? Customer service great at all levels (thanks Josh). Unfair to rate course at present.

Played yesterday on a very busy day. 5 hour round. And the afternoon Santa Ana's did not add to the enjoyment. This one course, of many L A County courses needs to do a better job of marshaling the course. It is always slow and mainly because of the 5 opening holes (short par 4, short par 3, short par 4, shorter par 3 and short par 4). If they could speed up play through "death by boredom valley" it would be wonderful. The course is in acceptable shape, given the amount of play and lack of attention by the golfers (many many fairway divots devoid of sand; to many non repaired ball marks). Tee boxes were OK but could be better; fairways were hit/miss, as some were good and others too many bare spots, but did provide many good lies; sand traps were playable and I will leave it at that; greens were fast, but soft (many shoe prints); rough was about 1/4 to 1/2 inch outside fairways. Personally not impressed with the overall customer service even on a busy day. And the snack bar is still closed? Will not be back anytime soon (and no doubt they won't miss me).

Played Chester Washington for the first time today. Went to cool clubs in the morning and got fitted for new irons and a new shaft for the driver. Well worth the price. I then had to go near LAX for work the next couple of days and wanted to find a course nearby . I found CW on greenskeeper and saw it was only 15 minutes from my hotel. I arrived at 145pm and was sent out with another single. Luckily the foursome on the first tee waived us up and off we went. Played in just over 3 hours and got all 18 holes in. Almost no wait on any tee! Tee boxes were beat up but level and was always able to find a spot for a tee. Fairways were a mixed bag, most green and easy to hit from. I did land in some divots but was able to play from them. Hit a couple of traps and was surprised they were soft and no rocks. The greens were lush and BUMPY. I figured it was late in the day and there was a lot of players today but there was no way of having a good putt. I would say if you go out early they may be in better shape. For me a course is rated by what you pay. I payed $30 to play 18 and ride a cart. I think this rate is perfect for the conditions. I think I would not pay more than $40 Anytime. I did read the previous reviews and didn't have any of the problems others have had. I would play the course again if I was in the area but I definitely would not make a special trip to play here.
