Played 5-23-16 with Nickesquire on a golfnow deal for $14 in a little under 4 hours. Tee boxes ranged from level and lush to un-level and thin with everything in between. Fairways were a little thin but still had descent lies. Rough was not long with some thin areas around the greens. Bunkers were in good shape with nice white sand. Greens were very soft and rolling medium speed with an occasional bump, and some bare areas around the edges on some. Overall course is in average shape but still fun to play occasionally.

Played the Blues (6385/70.8/124) in slightly less than 4H as a 2some with RGM2525 on a GN "Hot Deal" for less than $14 w cart. The weather was around 70, fairly calm and very overcast. We played through one 2some and only started waiting the last few holes on a surprisingly fast paced Monday afternoon round. My 1st time here in almost 8 years. They have cut down some trees and either added or removed some fairway traps since I last played here. Completely changes the way #10 plays w/o a thick forest just left of the narrow fairway. Overall, the course was in decent condition, very playable. The tees were a mixed bag. A few were good to very good, a few were poor, most were mediocre. The Kikuyu was mowed close and it looked like the tee markers had been regularly rotated. The Kikuyu fairways were average. More thin than lush with decent coverage. The Kikuyu rough was not tall and generally had good coverage close to the fairway. The farther you got from the fairway, it was 50/50 whether you were going to be on hardpan or Kikuyu. The sand traps could have been decent "but for" the golfers who frequent Knollwood thinking that the rakes beside the traps are mere ornaments. The quality of the sand was decent, just WAY too many footprints unraked in these traps. The greens were the hi-light of the course, VERY good. Soft, they held approach shots very well. They putted medium speed and were pretty smooth. Not a bad layout, tighter than most, it has many fun holes. However, the combination of American Golf & their 5somes plus many other better layouts closer to my home make me an infrequent visitor to Knollwood. Recommended if you can get a deal.

Had a rare Tuesday off so headed out to Knollwood on a HOT day to enjoy this wonderful layout. I'll never tire of this track, but there were some outside forces that made today somewhat rough. First to the bad part of the day ... had a 10:56 tee time booked from GolfZing, but when we arrived, there was a throng of players waiting around to tee off and it was just general chaos. Starter did not even have our group on his tee sheet, so we had to show him our receipts and then he fit us in around 20 mins later than our start time. While we were waiting to tee off on the first hole, there was a guy giving swing lessons to the guy on the tee - and the starter said nothing, so we did. No lessons on the tee box while five groups are waiting behind! Once we did finally get underway, course looked great. Fairways, while there are a few dry areas in this hot part of the valley, were generally very well covered, and the rough was cut to a very favorable length. There is a lot of mulch and native areas to find trouble in at Knollwood so best be keeping it straight. The tee boxes were all in mostly good shape, and the sand traps looked very nice indeed. Hit out of two of them during the day and both had very nice sand - a regularity in my experience at KCC. The recently punched greens, while showing the slightest signs still of being aerated, were terrific. Rolled consistently true and at a good speed - medium fast, and held shots very well. Minimal ball marks too ... all to the tune of just 27 putts all day for me - not too shabby. Our online deal did get us a beverage and a snack item at the turn, but unfortunately the café was out of hot dogs - what? Oh well, the afternoon breakfast burrito was terrific until a squirrel contaminated it while I was putting out on #11. Rat b*st%rd . POP turned out to be a serious nightmare though as we came in at just under 6 hours - this is not (or should not be) normal for a midweek round - that's the whole point in getting a day off of work. We waited on almost every shot on the front 9, but luckily it loosened up later, but still overall was terrible for a Tuesday. Still, I had a great day and shot my best ever at KCC, including my first ever triple birdie day, so who can complain too much after that? If you can catch a nice break and not spend more than 4-5 hours on the course, KCC is in fine shape right now. Enjoy it.

Played today with a mid-morning tee time. Got off just before the tournament they had going today. It was nice day to play today. There was a threat of rain today but it was mostly cloudy today. It took us about 5 hours to play. Pretty good pace of play for Knollwood.

Course conditions were really good today except for the greens. Didn't check greenskeeper.org before playing here about recent aeration but would have played anyways. The fairways and rough were well covered. All the recent rains the past couple of months have allowed the grass to cover the golf course. The greens are starting to recover from being punched. Probably need a couple more weeks to fully recover. We noticed while putting today that the balls would bounce around a lot. Greens were still decent enough to putt on.

The rough tho' was a little on the thick side. If your ball landed here, sometimes it was a little hard to find as sometimes we can only see the top of a players ball. The sand was fairly decent. Landed in the bunkers a few times and the sand in the bunkers were well covered and drained well from recent rains we had.

Love playing here since I like the golf course layout here. It's not an easy course to play but it has a lot of challenges. Will be back to play here again.

It was a nice day out so much so that everyone was there at Knollwood today. It was close to a 6 hour round. Course was just crowded.

Tee Boxes are lush and mostly level. Need to trim back some of the bushes on hole 11 they interfere with a golf swing. That or move the tee markers so it's not so close to the bushes. Fairways are lush. They need to place more sand in bunkers. There is a thin layer of sand for most of the bunkers and I saw a lot of this time around. Fairways had good coverage. Rough is thick and sticky. Greens are in good shape. They held their line well with medium/slow speed.

Overall conditions are quite good here. Just need to add that sand and tell some of these golfers to clean up their mess. Play here again? You bet, conditions here are above par. BTW playing in the tournament today you need to get those guys in the kitchen to precook some of those hamburgers. Keep them in a Chaffing dish on the grill and pull them out to cook and keep the golfers moving. I spent close to 15 minutes waiting for a burger to be cooked.

A great time today at Knollwood CC with fellow GK’er Mattias. We played a GK Cup 8 match so please check out the forum post for results. Teed it up around 12:00 noon and finished in about 4:30 hrs. I was very pleased with this pace of play considering the reputation of Knollwood being a slow go on the weekends. The course was in good shape with the greens running at medium/fast pace, albeit bumpy at times due to foot traffic from the weekend play, but they sure held shots well. These are challenging greens and fun to putt on – always try to avoid being above the hole. The bunkers were all in terrific shape with new sand and well raked. The tee boxes in good/fair shape. Some had a lot of divot damage and others pretty clean and lush (we played the blue tees). The fairways and rough we still mostly winter dormant. It’s a bermuda/kikuyu grass track with lots a trees creating shade making it even more challenging for the summer grasses to grow in lush this time of year. Consequently mostly thin lies. It has been about 6 years since playing here and I must say I love how they have cleaned up the hill sides surrounding the holes. Many times your ball will roll back down the hills and into play. You don’t lose nearly as many balls too. I think this has truly helped their pace of play. At the turn we had a beer and burger. Good eats but be warned it might take some time for your fresh cooked food so be ready to let the group behind you play through if they choose. The cheese burger was good and worth it although. I think this is going to be a great year for Knollwood, especially when summer rolls around the fairways fill in much more. I like the direction this course is heading! At thef LA County Golf Course Rates - this course is a deal.

Hit Knollwood today, 3/5, as a foursome for a 9:00 tee time. I hadn't been back here for many years and when my friend scheduled a round, I was curious to see what kind of shape it was in. True to form, it started out pretty slow for about the first third of the round. After that it began to pick up a bit with some occasional waiting. I didn't clock it but guess it was not quite a five hour round. Not surprising for a public course on a weekend, so I didn't really feel put out. In sequence: tee boxes were generally pretty level and good to hit from, with variations on the quality of the grass coverage, but none of it long. Fairways were pretty shabby. the coverage was only a little less consistent than other munis I've played under winter conditions, but overall it was tighter, firmer, and little tougher to hit off. I'm more of a sweep hitter and take little divot, so I found them less than ideal but playable, but if you take a healthy one, I would think you might have sore wrist by the end of the round.Needless to say, you got a lot of roll out. Rough was generally not very punitive, bunkers were good, and the greens were in pretty good shape — few marks, good speed and fairly receptive. I think it is a good layout that is more interesting than an average muni. I was glad I had an excuse to revisit the course and enjoyed the round, but the course needs some water and a little time to see what the fairways look like when the grass has any kind of fullness and cushion to it.

Played Knollwood today (Sunday) with GKer ahossom with a 9:18 tee time from the blues. After a tough 9 hour drive home from Tucson yesterday and a rough night's sleep, perhaps walking this hilly course was not the best idea. I will always love the Knollwood layout and find it to be one of the most enjoyable in Los Angeles, but conditions have certainly deteriorated since last visit. The fairways are equal part green and brown. There is a lot of new mulch where the rough used to be (not necessarily a bad thing). The tee boxes are very beat up, yet the unused tee areas seemed to have nice coverage. A lot of tee boxes still showing aeration effects. The bunkers remain top notch though - country club quality. As for the greens, they were rolling fast but many bumps and lots of burned out areas on them as well. Seemed trickier than usual today, but also have not been putting very well of late, however the four of us in our group were all guffawing quite a bit at the bizarre rolls many balls took and the numerous misses. While we had a fun group and never felt like we were moving all that slow, we were behind a fivesome and finished in around 5 and a half hours - not ideal. Saw the cart girl numerous times and a walking rate of $38.50 is still good, but $8 for a push cart is highway robbery. I will always enjoy return trips to Knollwood, but just be clear that it's much better when conditions are superior to today's and the POP picks up.

I played here Friday morning, teeing off at about 7:30 a.m. We had a foursome of walkers and finished at just about 4 hours. We did have to wait a little on a few holes, but nothing like it could get at this notoriously slow course. The greens are still healing from the recent aeration. I would say they are a little bumpy, but very playable right now with medium-fast speed. The greens also were soft and receptive to most any kind of shot. The tees were recently over seeded (lightly) and were beginning to grow in, but many were somewhat uneven. The fairways and rough were nice to hit from with lush grass most everywhere. I visited a couple of bunkers and the sand was very nice; probably the best bunkers in the area right now. I did enjoy the morning and it was a good walk for $29.
