Played here today (3/25) with GK member Kassper7 and my buddies Jeremiah and Josh on a 10:00AM tee time on what was forecasted to be consistent 20MPH wind with gusts in the 40's, that simply didn't transpire until nearly the end of the round! I have always enjoyed Classic Club more than just about any other course out this way, even if it does beat me up quite easily, but the more I play it, the greater respect I have for its design and conditions.

Tee boxes: Played the white tees today and felt they were in good shape overall. There are various tee options here and since most people THINK they can play the tips or the next up, the whites were in probably better shape than expected.

Fairways: Carpet, simply put. A few divots peppered here and there and perhaps not as pristine as Shadow Ridge, but a smidge less is still a 9 in my book. Fair roll today.

Rough: More penal than Shadow Ridge and found more of it. Gripped your clubs as you tried to fight through it.

Bunkers: Bunkers a plenty, all in good shape with great amounts of nice sand. Rake provided in your cart too!

Greens: Had what I deem a very fine sand top dressing on them that didn't seem to affect roll. Breaks at times were tricky but speed and false fronts were biggest guards to these.

ETC: Wonderful property, Troon operated so all class. Greeter to start, beverage attendant on course, helpers after to clean clubs; it's what to be expected for this place and they deliver. Play in the AM to try and avoid winds. $15 food/beverage voucher and new Classic Club towel continues to be included with green fee. Pace today was 4.5 on the dot but waited/were pushed nearly every hole after #3. A top 10-20 course for me!

Play day 01/28/21, 7:40 & 7:50 in the morning and afternoon at 12:10 & 12:20. We had 6 guys in games of 3 vs. 3 all in single cart each.

The day started in a cool high 40s and partly cloudy when we arrived and it warmed up to mid 60s with clear skies to a bright sunny day with a slight breeze all under 10 mph. Lovely day for sure!

The Classic Club in late January did not disappoint anyone in our group. It was beautiful and conditioned well for play. The greens rolled smoothly and on the fast side. I’ve been there when it was fast, but the current speed is fun enough for us to respect the speed. The fairways were emerald green and gorgeous against the tan colored dormant roughs along both sides that is thick but it isn’t so penalizing at all.
Oh, but the bunkers can be brutal whenever a ball plugs in its thick fluffy and heavy sand. The low bounce wedges might not be the wiser choice for play there- avoid them including the water hazards.. err.. penalty areas at all costs. Just saying :-)

Every personnel/staff were all helpful and cheerful at times. From picking us up at the lot, to check-in, course ambassadors, beverage carts, cart barn guys, the grill... etc.

The name Classic Club is held up high with their great customer services and a great course with its amazing playing conditions not to mention its gorgeous design and looks and unnoticeable teeth, fangs and all. The course will test and or satisfy your golf skills to its fullest and before you know it, it’s luring you in to come back and play it again and again for revenge or for redemption or just simply for a fun day outing, this is a classy place to do it in !!

Needless to say that this is one of my most favorite courses to be on in the Coachella Valley.

Played 12-14-20 afternoon with John, Kevin, and Nick getting around the course in about 4 hours with no waiting. Tee boxes were in nice shape, level, lush and minor divot damage on par 3s. Fairways were mostly lush with some minor thin areas, they provided nice lies with decent roll out. Rough was in good shape not to long a fairly easy to hit from. Was not in any bunkers but they looked very nice and well groomed. Greens were medium/fast semi-firm and rolling smooth, a few of them had some minor blemishes that did not effect roll. Nice challenging course with wide fairways, deep bunkers and big greens.

Played the GK Guru outing on 12/14 with noonish tee times. First time back since the GK year ending event about 9 years ago, so everything seemed new to me. Super friendly staff grabbed the bag as I walked up and the brand new cart was set and ready to go. There's an outdoor snack shack at the bottom of the clubhouse with some good food options. I had the grilled chicken sandwich with green chile and it was delicious.

It seems everything about the course is big. Big clubhouse. Big fairways. Big bunkers. And big greens. While not immaculate, the course was in pretty good shape. There were some blemishes but most did not affect play. Fairways were dry and firm, allowing some roll out on drives. Bunkers were filled with some of the fluffiest sand I've played, definitely not desert like bunkers. Greens were smooth and medium speed.

Classic Club reminds me of many Arnold Palmer designed courses. Wide fairways. A nice mix of short and long par 4s. Some risk/reward shots with bail out areas. They have a great collection of par 3s, and the two on the back 9 are incredible. A must play in the area.

Following Indian Wells Golf Resort was the second round of GK Guru Monday at Classic Club. As magnificent as Indian Wells Golf Resort is, Classic Club stands on equal ground with its own unique experience. BTW – both golf courses are managed by Troon Golf so as you can guess there are very high standards in place.

Pulling up the place looked immaculate and at check-in we found out they just got a new fleet of carts in that morning. Everyone playing that day would be the very first to experience the new carts. How cool! Man they are gorgeous and LOL, they had that new car smell plus the stickers still on the tires. In addition they were equipped with the shark experience. Paired up with cbubaseball9 in cart 25. If you play Classic Club and get cart 25, that's Johnny and Kevin's cart - LOL.

Having played Classic Club just prior to overseeding in September as a bermunda turf course and now after overseed as a rye grass course it was fun to compare. Enjoyed them both times however playing an overseeded Classic Club is simply a stunning golf experience. Just take a look at the photos I posted and book a tee time there.

The greens were running fast, firm and smooth. Just the way I like them. Fairways lush with excellent lies all day. Rough lush about two to three inches. Bunkers simply immaculate as they recently renovated all of them earlier this year. Tee boxes, lush, level and perfect.

Classic Club is a very challenging golf course. I stepped back with my group to play the blue tees but probably should have played the white tees. Classic Club used to be a host course of the PGA Tour Bob Hope Classic and you can quickly see why. If I had a 5 course rotation to play out in the desert Classic Club gets an automatic bid.

Fantastic practice facilities, service and clubhouse (beautiful decorated for Christmas I might add).

My second round of the day yesterday was at Classic Club for the GK Guru event. Man was I spoiled on this trip - first a trip to Indian Wells and then onto Classic Club. Just another average Monday.......

This place is awesome all the way around. As you have probably seen from a number of reviews on here, this place is a gem. This is my first experience playing in the Palm Springs area in the winter time. All of my other PS rounds have been in the dead of summer. Winter in the desert is a completely different experience. This place is beautiful beyond words.

This was my third time playing this course and the conditions this time were by far the best I have seen here (or anywhere in this area - as I said, I usually play here when it is 115 outside). The bright green fairways against the brownish rough areas is a sight to behold. Even the bunkers have a brown ring around most of them against the bright white sand and the green of the fairways - awesome. I want to be clear that when I say brown, I do not mean dead or unplayable. It is just something you need to see and experience.

As everyone before me has said, everything around here is top notch. All aspects of the course are A+ in my opinion - tee boxes, fairways, greens, bunkers, clubhouse, etc. The only thing that needs mentioning is a few minor imperfections in the greens. I am not sure what was going on but most greens had a few burn areas in them. They were mostly just not pleasant to look at. They did not have any influence over the putts. I feel that we were also very spoiled with the weather. He did not even have a puff of breeze and it was like 70 degrees outside - not bad for December golf!

The layout and condition of this course is outstanding. No hole feels like you are playing a hole that you have previously played. You really have to play here to understand the beauty of the holes. I do not feel that pictures do this place justice. A absolute must play if you are in the area. Nick - you are spoiled to have such great courses in your home town. I am jealous.

I know that this may not be the place for this type of comment but if you have not played in one of the GK'er events, make sure you check one out. This was my first one and I was lucky enough to play with Johnny, Ron, and Nick who made the experience very enjoyable. Give one of these events a try - I promise you will not be disappointed. Everyone was very friendly and I think this a great place to make some new golfing buddies. It took me like 5 holes to get the nerves out during this event but once I calmed down, I played better and had a great time. Thank you again guys for a great 36 hole day and a special thanks to Johnny for setting it all up. I will be doing another event in the future for sure. Be sure to check one out if you have not played in one. It was a blast!

12/14 guru outing super nice day and great company. Played here 1 other time with GK and forgot how tough this course can play. Played the whites at 6299 plus which was about the same as Celebrity but in my opinion at least 20% harder and way less forgiving. Conditions overall are good. Fairways mostly yield good lies with some thin areas and a fair number of unfilled divots which is uncalled for as a quality mix is provided. Rough could be quite challenging especially on some slopes and further away from the fairway. Tees level, some a little thin and some par 3s a little worn as the markers were often placed quite close together. Bunkers have quality sand that were initially well groomed but even with rakes on the carts there were many that were left covid trodden.
Greens were quick receptive to full shots and a challenge for chips and pitches what with the run out. Greens are large with some pins in tough places often behind bunkers or in a very narrow area near the edge. Due to the variety of grass the cover is on the thin side and the greens are vulnerable to pitch marks which are slow to heal leaving some bumpiness.
Excellent customer care. Really comfortable carts. Greg Norman GPS system that had a lot of info but was a little hard to read for these old eyes. 345 POP on a beautiful low desert day with NO wind.

Yes! I finally got out here! Thank you, Johnny and Classic Club for having a Guru outing. This is probably the best course I have played here in the low desert. Current conditions are outstanding. Greens: Fast paced and receptive of most shots. I liked that they were undulating and the pins were in tricky locations. It was certainly challenging. Fairways: They were visually stunning and mostly wide and forgiving. However, there were a couple that were insidiously challenging. I'm especially looking at you, Hole 7! I hit a low drive to the middle, only to have it turn left and roll down a slope into the lake. LOL! Same thing happened later on Hole 17 where a good drive rolled to the right and leaked into the lake. I won't be making that mistake next time! Rough: I had really good lies most of the time and only once or twice did I have trouble hitting from the rough. Hole 18 had some very thick rough along the left side of the fairway about 150 yards out from the green and I did pay a hefty price for not getting the club on the ball there. Sand: Very nice, white and fluffy (to borrow abbacat's description). I was in one bunker but I bladed the ball when I tried to hit the classic explosion shot. My club bounced against the sand and I launched one 30 yards over the green! Tees: All were level and had great turf coverage. Overall impression: Great course and visually stunning from the moment you arrive at the property. With all the water features, pine trees, and undulating topography you are hard pressed to think of this as a desert course. Great work and kudos to the grounds crew keeping the course in such a pristine condition.

Played today in the GK Guru outing with Kevin, Rob and Gary. Upon arrival, just the view of the huge clubhouse lets you know you’re in for a treat. Customer service was great all around. The carts are very nice with GPS, complimentary water bottles in cooler, damp towels and a rake. There is a large practice area with grass range, bunker/chipping area and a huge putting green.
The course was in great shape. Tees (purple) were level with few divots. Fairways were green and with just a few thin and muddy spots. The bunkers had the best sand I’ve seen in a while – sparkling white and fluffy. The rings of dormant grass around the traps, while visually attractive, was too short to stop balls from rolling in. The rough along the fairways was green, lush and easy to hit from. The greens were firm and had lots of interesting breaks.
This was my second time playing Classic Club. It was just as beautiful and challenging as I’d remembered. There are lots of elevation changes, mountain views and water on half of the holes. It’s easy to forget you’re in the desert as there is not a single palm tree in sight!
Thank you, Johnny and Classic Club, for a very fun day. I look forward to playing here again. Highly recommended.
