Went out yesterday as a single, joined a 2 some. Course coming back from maintenance nicely. Bunkers had about an inch of sand, was in 3 and got out okay. Greens coming along, slow but fair, when you are use to greens like the Champions, Goose, that are fast, you just have to adjust.

Walked on at noon Monday and went right out to the first tee and played as a single. Course is coming out of maintenance very nicely. Tee boxes and fairways are very green and lush. Rough is up a little and you need to keep an eye on your ball. Greens had a trace of the holes from aeration and were a little bumpy, couple of putts were knocked offline. Traps had little sand and really have to be careful with the club bottoming out. Great setting when you get back in the canyon, beware of the trains that come by some of the engineers take great pleasure in sounding their horn.

Played yesterday, 3.14 with thingstodo in our GK match. He gives a good overview, so I'm just adding a few comments to his review, which you'll find a couple of bumps back in the thread. Surprisingly, despite our group's slow pace (per thingtodo's description) we were not pressed from behind until the last few holes, so the course seemed fairly open. In retrospect, I thought the most problematic aspect of the course was the clumpy rough, around the green complexes. It made chipping around the green much more of an adventure than I would have liked and suffered some uncharacteristic skulls and chunks. If you got a little higher or lusher spot, it was good, but that was random. I think it's by product of the winter conditions so I don't know that much could be done about it. Generally, though, the course is in nice shape for winter and played pretty well. I suggested it for the match after only playing it once at a GK outing because I think it is a fair (in the competitive sense) layout. The views and feel of the area are rural, scenic and a little remote, with the obvious exception of the adjacent freeway. The GK coupon price for two sealed the deal when making the final decision and was bargain for a weekend round. No regrets and enjoyed the round. Thanks Mike.

Teed off about 11:50 and it took 4-1/2 hours or so to get around, mainly because we had a first timer and a very deliberate slow way about swinging the club.
The course was in decent shape. Fairways were nice as long as you were in the center. The rough is a mixed bag of clumpy grasses and thin lies. There were some extra tree branches from the storm that passed through yesterday but the course had no evidence of being wet anywhere. Must have good drainage or the pouring rain we had in San Dimas missed Green River course.

The greens were receptive and rolled pretty good. A few bumps here and there but the ball marks were pretty well taken care of. Kudo's to the patrons as the ball definitely made their mark on approach shots.

Sand traps are very shallow sand , club bottoms out quickly, beware.

Tee boxes were lush but had many divots. Footing carefully placed and no other issues.

There are a lot of trees on the course and the layout is good. Although the new layout has five par 3's (some long ones) and five par 5's. I don't know if that is a good thing or not.

It was breezy and club choice was mostly against the wind take one or two extra kind of day.

Enjoyed the round and will be coming back . Good deal with the GK Coupon

Green River with the Dawgs today, teed off around 9:45am and got around in 4:40. Let's go with the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for this review. The Good: greens. Poa rolled mostly true at medium speed. Somewhat shaggy but that's okay since they are fairly flat and easy to read. The bad: bunkers. Firm, hard, and firm ... and I'm being nice here. The Ugly: Fairways and rough. Patchy, uneven, some real gnarly lies. Lot's of burrowing animal casts in the rough. Mixture of Kikuyu and whatever else is growing out there. Really enjoy the layout and surroundings here at GR (other than trains going by every 10 minutes) and great 19th hole, so they got that going for them. I like coming here, I just want a decent lie if I'm in the fairway ... that's not too much to ask, is it?

A beautiful day to golf! The greens are in very good shape, the fairways dormant, the tee boxes fair, and the bunkers awful. Real hard packed dirt. The service in the cafe was good in the morning, and very slow in the afternoon. We were very lucky at the snack shop in the course. The lady was going to close up to go on a break, and no one was coming out to relieve her. She sold us drinks before leaving.

I have played Green River many times in the past couple of years as our group bought a standard tee time for Saturday mornings but have never reviewed it. Anyone familiar with GR knows it used to have two 18 courses several years ago. We really miss those days. Both tracks were pretty challenging and it was nice to have the variety. Now with only one course, they have still done a great job in keeping it challenging. If you ever play GR, say hello to the Head Pro there, Art Guevara. A great guy and does so much for the course and the community. He and his staff make it fun for everyone. As for the course, like many courses, winter has grabbed hold of it. A lot of dormant grass but the fairways are still in pretty good shape. Greens are not very fast but are in very good condition and hold good shots. The rough here is pretty tough in the summer because its so thick. Winter rough though is very playable. Tee boxes are in good shape as are the sand traps. The front 9 winds through some back hills and is very scenic. Although not as scenic, the back 9 has some elevation changes which are fun. 12, 13, 14 16 are significant changes in elevation which makes you think. Both 9's are lined with nice, huge trees and really come into play if you stray off of the fairways. The par 3's are plenty long. Not one par 3 under 170 yards. 16 is one tough par 3, about 205 down hill. Pace of play can be slow playing mid morning and afternoon on the weekends. Early play is recommended. Downside is you can always count on afternoon winds here and in a Santa Ana condition, forget it. Brutal. This is a fun course to play and they keep it affordable. Its definitely worth the fee and the time. This course/layout is very challenging and long (actually, I think its a bit under rated by its course rating) and a must play if you're out in the Corona area.

It’s been about a week and I really appreciate the reviews posted so far about the course and GK Plays Green River. Besides a slow pace of play which in my mind being it was Friday afternoon with beautiful weather on a popular course it was to be expected…Green River exceeded my expectations. As a group organizer they handled everything perfect. Better organized than some of the higher end courses we've had our outings at in the past. When I got there, the carts were set-up perfectly, Art in the proshop had all the markers with tape measures good to go, personal assistance was offered, the range ball tickets prepared…I felt my group was well taken care of. After the golf the restaurant/grill made for a excellent small outing meet up. Food was delicious and affordable. We had a great time. As for the golf course, I thought it was in great shape with exception of the green speeds slower than I prefer. I spoke with the superintendent before the round and he said they will be getting them faster/smoother over the next few weeks. The greens did hold shots well and were mostly smooth already. As far as turf conditions, lush throughout and well groomed. Impressive for a low cost course like Green River to say the least. The course however is loaded with trees and the leaves are falling so add the variable of kikuyu rough and it’s a long day looking for your ball so keep a watchful eye on it. In the fairways and on the tee boxes the ball sits up great. From the bunkers the sand is in good shape and well kept. If I lived closer to this course it would be on my regular rotation. I especially like that it’s mostly flat and walk-able. The prices to play here are very reasonable. I will be back next year with another GK Plays outing.

Played with the GK Plays event last week. Sorry for the delayed review. Been working on several GK Coupons which I am sure everyone here will be availing themselves.

Greens are slower but receptive. Very hard to hold a line in the afternoon. Course is getting enough water in fact several areas along the fairway were a bit muddy. Fairways were lush except muddy parts. Rough cut to about the same height as fairway. Sand in bunkers are hard packed - my personal preference. I don't have to blast the ball out just use a regular stance to knock the ball low and running towards the green.

Pace of play was OK. The folks in my group said slow but we kept up and aside from the heat which is not the golf course's fault it was a great day of golf. It was a fun tract. I played here many moons ago and only seemed to remember a few holes. I was told it is a combination of the original two courses. I personally like it but like always your mileage will vary.

The big question, would I play here again? Yeppers. It's a fun tract. It plays a little longer into the wind and that is what I enjoy. Will I be back? Definitely, these summer courses are fun to play and the price is right at twilight.
