Played 10-23 in the GK plays event.
Not much to add to all of the previous reviews. I do have some thoughts about the pace of play. The rough while not overly long, the ball really settled down and with all of the fall leaves on the ground it was quite difficult to find balls. This really added some time to our round but we were always within sight of the group ahead and never pushed from behind.
The greens being POA really got a little long late in the day and someone ahead of us must have had a size 15 shoe and left plenty of footprints around the hole that effected some of our putts.
Over all I had a great time and got to meet a couple of new GK members.

I was half way through my review and just lost the half hours worth of typing I'd already done. I don't have the psychic energy to start over. Hey, there are 10-and-counting post-GK event reviews in the thread before me, so I think you've got the picture by now.

This much I'll say: good, solid, playable, well conditioned, tree-lined course, at a very reasonable price. Flat overall but with some hilly exceptions in the mix. Generally good for walking. It plays fair but gives you opportunities to beat yourself up if you are so inclined. Course itself is not overly dramatic, but the relatively undeveloped surrounds (the freeway next door not withstanding) are rather scenic—Chino Hills to the north and Santa Ana Mtns to the south. I thought the north end of the Santa Ana mountain range rising from beyond the freeway south of the course was, in fact, rather dramatic and kept drawing my eye.

Management needs to get more drinking water stations out on the course. Seriously.

Thanks to Green River for hosting us. Bar and kitchen staff got it done at the back end. To Johnny GK, I (and my inner luddite zombie) thank you for putting the event together. It was well run, right to the point, and very enjoyable. To my partners Tim, Jim and especially my cart partner Dog, thanks for the good company.

Played on Friday, October 23, 2015 with GKers roarksown1 (Robert), mswhsu (Willie), and Mswhsu's brother (Steven) on a warm sunny day with light variable winds. Pace of play was a little slow at about 4.5 hours. Thanks JohnnyGK for setting up a great venue and Green River Golf club for treating us as honored guests! The course was in very good condition with green abundant everywhere you looked! The tee boxes were a little out of level but mostly lush. The fairways were lush green and were better than the norm due to the drought conditions at many courses. The rough was 1-3 inches deep and mostly lush but not too penal. I cannot report on the sand conditions in the bunkers as I was not in any of them (another miracle!) all day. The greens were mostly lush with some unrepaired ball marks, rolled true, and were about a 9 on the Stimp. The visual condition of the course is a very pleasant "green" when you arrive! The course staff were pleasant and were very efficent in getting us out on the course. I haven't seen it done this way before but it seems to work very well. We were treated well in the lounge area for our awards ceremony and the food was very good and welcomed after the round! I highly recommend getting out and playing this course which has some interesting par 3 holes that are very challenging! I would like to thank Green River Golf Club for hosting us and providing a course that is in very good condition. It was a pleasure to participate in another well run GK Plays and I look forward to our next outing opportunity! Jesse

I played in the GK plays on Oct 23. I haven't played here since the course got washed and reduce the golf course from 2 18's to 2 9 holes course. The course had a few raise tee boxes, which is nice to "hit down the fairway". Most of the tee boxes where firm, and many had excessive hacker divots. The rough was long on some of the holes, sometimes burying the ball. There where ALOT of leaves, that to, made it hard to see or find your ball. The bunkers are plentiful throughout the course, many holes are protected. The greens seemed to roll really consistent and true. The overall course looked green, and has not been too effected by the water shortage. I did not feel like I would make this course as one of my go to course, but for special events, I would play again.

Played in the GK event on October 23 and like all GK events in was great. Green River is a course that I have played many many times and found the pace of play slower than normal, but can't pinpoint the reson why. I live in the Long Beach area and find driving to Green River playing a round, driving home, is less time than it takes for a weekend round in the Long Beach area and cheaper too. Always can find a decent rate at Green River.
As for the conditions I have to agree with the other posts. The fairways are as good as I have ever seen them. The one bunker I was in was a little thin for my taste, buy playable. The greens need a little more speed to them as way too many putts were left short. The one odd thing I did find is that holes 3-4 played different than I am used to because of the wind, it was in a different direction than normal which made the par 3 4th a lot longer.
The staff was ready for us and made sure we were ready on the first tee.
I will be back, I enjoy this course.

Played 10-23-15 with the GK plays. First time on this course. Found it to be a very fun challenge. There's a nice mix of easier holes and difficult holes.Blue tee boxes were in pretty good shape, fairways were nice and lush. The rough though not deep was tough all the same. Lost 2 balls just off the fairway with all the leaves every where making it easy to hide your ball. Greens were in good shape though some still showed signs of aeration. I was in 2 bunkers all day and the surface was soft with hard pan under but very playable. The course is like a step back in time. Old trees and a feeling that this course has been here a long time. I will definitely want to get back here again. The toughest part about this course is chipping from the dreaded Kikuyu! A fun place to spend the afternoon.

Played in the GK event on 10/23/15 with GKers ItslikeImsayin, tomhooter, and bwaldera. First time meeting the latter two and enjoyed the group very much - always great to meet and play with new GKers. I was trying out a new driver and was all over the golf course, so thanks to my group for their patience. We were tried by the slow pace of the round and struggled with the inconsistency of the greens and chipping from that gnarly kikuyu rough around the greens. Some greens were in good shape, but some showed obvious evidence of recent aeration - these were softer and slower, and were showing a lot of shoe prints late in the day. Fairways and rough were generally OK as the kikuyu tends to make the ball sit up. Sand was in pretty good shape with adequate playing layer. Tees were pretty rough, and par 3 tees were really hammered. Thanks to Johnny for making this happen. GR is not one of my favorites but getting together with GKers made it worthwhile.

Played GK event Fri with Nickesquire, wangster, and osamabinhacking and was the 2nd group out. Never met any of them before and I am always nervous around people I don't know, but these guys were really cool and I relaxed very quickly, especially after that horrible tee shot I had on #2 LOL As stated in other reviews POP was slow at 5 hrs and that takes a toll on you. I played green river the Fri before and the conditions were the same. I did adjust better to the green speed this time, agreed with others not slow not fast, but in our group more putts were left short than ran by. Green river from the blues can be a challenging course and if the wind is blowing (yeah like every afternoon lol), many par 4's over 400 yards and several par 3' are monsters. This is typical green river golf in the fall. On many holes if you are in the rough, you can very easily loose your ball with the length of the rough and all the leaves . I think that contributes to the slow play. I had a good time.

Played in the GK Plays with Osamabinhackin, Chevelle & Wangster. Thanks to all for a fun round! Our group played the Blues (71.6/123/6634) in 5H, slow round but it was spaced out Okay, we did not wait long on any particular hole other than #13 when a 2some appeared out of no where in front of us? First time I had played here in over 20 years, so the 1st time I had played the current condensed 18 hole layout. I thought the layout was VERY playable for players of all skill levels. I especially liked the five par 5's and five par 3's & a really good variety of holes overall. The tees were Okay but several (mostly par 3's) needed divot repair. The fairways were nice, good coverage, I had good lies anytime I found the fairway. The kikuyu rough was not overly tall but was penal. The combination of rough & leaves made finding balls in the rough tough, which contributed to a slower POP. Hard to get solid contact on even middle irons most of the time. I was only in one trap and it was nicely maintained. The smaller sized greens held approach shots well and were consistent from green to green. Medium speed, mostly smooth, occasionally bumpy, I didn't make many putts but had a good lag putting day. We saw the cart gal several times and the customer service from the Pro Shop to the Restaurant was very good. I had nacho's & a diet coke after the round, about average in both price/quality for a golf course. Nicely stocked pro shop. If I lived in the area, this course would be apart of my regular rotation. Long enough to be a test and I liked the layout. No holes that made me go wow!, but no bad holes either. 10 & 16, both playing into the wind were long/tough holes. Finishing with back to back par 5's provides scoring opportunities late in the round. Both the layout and the conditions were above average IMO. Fun experience, Recommended.
