As excepted, it was and will continue to be cart path only for a while. Other than a brief shower on a few holes, conditions weren't all that unpleasant. Course has handled the rain very well. no issues at all. Greens still had good speed and rolled well and were very receptive. Despite the amount of rain, all the bunkers were excellent. However, looking forward to warmer/drier conditions.

I finally got my clubs out here so I wanted to play a “nice” course. I’ve been cycling around Key Biscayne a bit and have passed by Crandon Golf course, so I chose this as my first stop here in the Miami area. I played on Tuesday with a 10AM tee time. Chandon Golf sits in the middle of Key Biscayne island so I was expecting great things as this is a nice area just over the bridge from downtown Miami. The price point also suggested that I was in for a treat. Whereas the course layout was very nice with numerous water hazards and forced carries throughout the entire course, the conditions were a let down.

The greens themselves were large with moderate undulations. Basically what you would expect on a resort course. They didn’t look very pretty, but actually rolled ok. Fairly smooth at a medium pace was not desirable but acceptable. Fairways were the big letdown. Brown and bare spots throughout the entire course. What wasn’t bare was generally patchy. Fairways were generously wide and offered good roll out. If you don’t mind a little foot nudge to give yourself a good lie then all is well. If you play the ball down then it’s a frustrating day for sure.

Tee boxes were ok. Definitely level and most were divot free or at least had plenty of area you could find good footing and area to tee it up. Bunkers were really nice. They matched the price point. The sand traps were consistent throughout the entire course and between the four of us, we were in probably a total 30 bunkers so we had a good sampling of the bunkers. It was one of those days!

Carts had GPS to the flag and cart service came around a couple of times. Overall customer service was ok. Nothing to brag about, but nothing to complain about either.

The course had easily 15+ water hazards plus a few views of the Miami skyline. A big plus on that. I do think give the location of this course right on the edge of the water, they could have done a better job with views of the bay but overall, not bad. Given the location and course layout, I’m sure I’ll play here again at some point but not sure it’ll be anytime soon given the current conditions. I would just like it to be a little better for the cost.

Well it finally stopped raining the sun came out and I got to play golf. My first time back here in over 20 years (OMG).

The setting of the course in the hills of Fairfield is wonderful. Great views from just about everywhere on the course.

The course is still wonderful and truly even better than I remember. Signed up for the Loyal-Tee rewards program ($65 Annual for Sr) and got a great $37 walking rate. I walked as it was CPO and felt walking in a straight line most of the 18 instead of sideways was better.
The course is a little hilly but not that bad with the right push cart.

Lucky I was with a local as this course has many water hazards and he was helpful pointing them out for me before we teed off on those holes.

Wide fairways and still a little damp but that helped on some holes of not running off into the trees, of which there are many.

Tee boxes were just fine. Bunkers I missed but they looked good but still damp.

Greens were in great shape even after the rain. And large with plenty of undulations to conquer. But because they were still soft from the rain they were playable. I do not think they would be less forgiving when they are dry and firm.

Very nice clubhouse and had lunch in the small but quaint restaurant and food and prices were excellent.

I am looking forward to many many more rounds here on this very fine golf course.

The Canyon course is more spread out than Mountain, but the POP still usually moves well. Weather conditions have been damp and chilly the last week. Which has made the overseed perk up even more. Course playing a little longer with less roll. Playing conditions are excellent overall, near immaculate. Greens are firm and quick. Lush everywhere. Sand almost always near immaculate here, especially around the greens. Restaurant okay, but they have raised their prices and have no deals on the menu anymore however. Probably the best 36 hole facility to play south of Phoenix and north of the Mexican border in southern Az. Excellent practice facility. Highly recommended.
Had a bonus yesterday as a playing partner. A very nice (and talented) 4th grader who has been getting lessons riding around with his mom. Enjoyable to ask Andrew what he saw on certain shots or putts to get his perspective from a 10 year old point of view. You could tell he "got it" on levels exceeding what many newer adults I have been matched up with over the years did. Course management already good. Consistent contact in the air toward his targets with some surprisingly long shots playing from the Silver tees.

Early morning 3.5 hour mid week round walking the Creek/Oaks nines. The course was totally deserted when we started the round but was getting busy when we finished. Every hole was cart path only which didn't really matter if you were walking. The tee boxes were nice except the par three holes were only divots and sand. The rough was actually trimmed down to an acceptable length but extremely thick and damp. Easy enough to find your shot but difficult to put a decent stroke on it. The fairways were squishy from start to finish and the creeks and drainage ditches running quick. There was little roll if you could hit the short stuff and damp enough to muddy things up. The traps were all full of water and nearly unplayable on every hole. The greens were all in great shape and surprising extremely quick. The speed of the greens was very deceptive with the weather conditions. I would say the greens were quicker than almost any other round I have played here including the dry hot summer rounds. The weather ranged from partly sunny to super windy with rain showers and constantly shifting winds. The weekday times are usually easy to book and walking rates reasonable.

Few days late on the review. Played Sunday, Feb 15. Tee time 9am. $53 civilian walking rate, well worth it. POP was excellent at 4hrs. Waited a little bit on the front 9 but then blazed through the back. What a fun course, it was only my second time playing it.

White tee boxes were in great shape. Nicely mown and very level. No complaints other than they were a little hard packed underneath and I tee the ball low, so broke quite a few tees.

Fairways in great shape. Perfect roll and cushion. Visually they're awesome, as well, as they are a perfect lighter shade of green than the rough and they were mown perfectly to show a great crisply mown contrast against the darker color rough. They get pinched in many landing areas so very narrow, some are only about 15-20 yds wide.

Found one bunker greenside and it was great. No problems.

Rough was lush and thick. Ball tended to sit down and definitely made you grip firm and hit down on the ball as best as possible.

Greens were great. Held shots very well and putted true with a fast pace especially when the dew dried. They got quick and were a blast to putt.

Customer service was just fine. The guy at the main gate was awesome. Proshop was no frills. And the starter was hilarious. Beverage cart was out and about and the lady in the snack bar was a kick!!!! All and all, just a great day. Perfect weather with 3 great friends. Highly recommend.

Sadly, Tecolote Canyon ceased operation as of Feb 15 2025 due to city construction work on a 5 mile length of sewer line that runs through the center of the course. Construction is expected to be finished sometime this summer.

Late review after a round last Friday, about 7:30 am tee off. Walked from the blue tees with two riders and another walker. Not a quick round but the back nine was faster than the front and we finished in less than 4.5 hours. Snack bar was open when we made the turn.

The course was still wet in places from the rain last Tuesday but much better than when I played in January. For whatever reason there was still a moisture problem from the restroom building next to the 13th tee extending into the fairway, including a buildup of water on the cart path. The fairways were good if a little shaggy for this time of year. The sand traps were lousy, wet mud for the most part. The greens were pretty quick and held shots well. There were some difficult putts out there considering the speed and slope.

The course is playable but playing longer than usual. I would give it a few days to dry out but worth the play considering the cost.

Played 2-15-26 afternoon as a twosome for $35 walking finishing in a little over 4 1/2 hours with no waiting on the first six holes and then waiting for every shot through 18. Tee boxes were thin and bare in some spots and having to search for a level stance on most of them. Fairways were okay with some good coverage mixed in with some thin and bare areas, decent roll out and just okay lies. Rough was not much longer than the fairways and in about the same shape. Bunkers for the most part were not in good condition, some with little sand and hard surfaces, and others with some sand but a lot of small pebbles mixed in, and occasionally some decent sized rocks. Although the greens looked okay they didn't play very well. Slow and bumpy with a lot of unrepaired and poorly repaired pitch marks. Hard to keep a putt on line. I don't play here that often anymore, and every time I come back the course conditions are very disappointing.

Out last Friday the 13th with a foursome, all riding and playing the whites. Not really a walking course for most people and not sure it's even an option. Last time I played here was about a year ago and about 25 yrs before that. Conditions on the day were solid all around. Last time, the greens were unexpectedly punched and sanded while this time around they were fine — running the quick side of medium and pretty clean.

Minor quips: the cart was a bit sluggish and the range has a touch of sidehill to it. Otherwise, perfect weather, some great views, the pace was good, drink cart came around numerous times. An interesting layout that can require specific placement and course knowledge to best maneuver some of the doglegs.

Played this course once and awhile for 30 years. It has declined. Still playable. However, restaurant is closed. Driving range is closed. Hole 10 went from a par 5 to a par 3.

JC Golf is in charge but I am not sure what they are thinking. Not spending much on the course it appears.

Greens were OK and the fairways were overseeded and OK to play from.

Bunkers were dirt.

I would say that for this time of year, February, it is worth the green fee but when the weather warms up and the tourists leave I would not play there with all of the other courses to play in the area.

Let me start by saying I always enjoy coming to Marshall Canyon. It's my home course so I'm a bit bias. The course is in decent condition , and it looks like they are doing more work to improve it, which is great. I know the course well, but today I figured out why the round was 5 hours. It's when the pins are placed in tough spots on multiple greens. I average 32 putts per round, and today I had 36. Downhill putts ran completely off the green even when they were just tapped. I had 2 uphill putts that made a u turn and came back further than where I started. It was not enjoyable. MC putting is always tough, but this was unfair and slowed the pace of play substantially. Everything else was great. Make the pins more accessible, have more fun, and play faster!
