Played a five hour round finally after having been given it by my wife some five years ago. The clubhouse is a modular which does the job. No driving range and/or real practice green. The carts are very basic with no gps or windshields. You'll wish you had a windshield with all the flies, gnats, mosquitoes and bees you encounter on the front nine. The tee boxes were all level and in pretty fair shape with some being a little thin. The rough is really short or missing with the many forced carries from the tee on the front and back. The fairways were all really great with nice coverage and some Bermuda dormant and not. The grass was fluffy enough on most lies except nearer the greens where you find firm tight lies! The fairways do provide for very good roll out on low shots. There were sections of the course that were soggy and muddy from lack of irrigation management. The traps were all damp with some having compact sand and others filled with the decent fluffy stuff. Hitting a shot from the traps can be an adventure. The greens still showed signs of aeration but were not too bad. The greens held shots nicely and rolled pretty well with a bump here and there. The greens had some elevation changes and were all pretty large. Many shots into them can be blind or semi blind and deceiving without having played here before (which we had not). The water does come into play on a several holes with the fairways being sloped towards the hazard. The views and vegetation here reminded me of Twin Oaks and Eagle Crest (Dos Osos) in San Diego county at a much more reasonable rate. I found that booking a tee time here can be difficult especially on the weekends. When we made the turn there were three groups waiting to tee off. The location and course rates do make this a great place to play. Recommended

Played Champions at 8:13am with a cart for $65. This course continues to embody the philosophy of maximum profit with minimal amenities. Conditions haven't changed much, bunkers are crappy/muddy/standing water, but the greens are now back to their pretty fast speeds albiet with many spike marks and unrepaired ball marks - if you can avoid those you'll have putts that roll true and require soft touch. Beverage cart does not have coffee, even though the pro shop said they would have coffee. Restaurant is only open Fri-Sun. Range grass sucks but the practice putting and chipping greens are nice. My recommendation is to just keep driving to Palm Springs...

Got out yesterday as a single, paired with a newbee and a Long Ball Champion! Anyway, The greens were small tined punched! They were rolling!! Fairways freshly mowed and had some roll. Tee boxes were average, only the bunkers which I wasn't in were wet sand and mostly hard pack. Little to no wind, except for the extra three ball dropped by my playing partners, lots of swinging if you know what I mean. Didn't hold up anybody behind us, so good practice for them I guess. It was a beautiful day at the Dam! Go Play!

RIP old friend. What a loss....their website says permanently closed. Such a gem ...so unique. Robert Trent Jones design ...so fun ..so unique. The views, the dunes, the wildlife. Hope I can walk it one day again-- website says it will be a nature preserve. Maybe one day it will return. Thanks for the memories...thanks for the shots.

As mentioned before, greens were aerated when course closed five weeks ago. Course has been open for two full weeks. Greens are still moderately slow and all the greens still show evidence of holes and are somewhat bumpy. Add in some sort of discoloration and you scratch your head as to what is going on.

Still cart path only. Winds have dried out fairways a bit. Reasonably good coverage on fairway and you can play the ball down without issue except for the "Indian burial ground" areas that just refuse to grow grass no matter the time of year . Tee boxes have grown in but they get so much wear due to the fact they are so small.

Bunkers are still a concern as gravel poking thru in some greenside sand traps. POP was 4 hours. Getting better but expect it will be another 2-3 weeks before we see all around excellent conditions meaning that it's been 5 months of sub par conditions for this so called "private gem".

North greens just got punched and it will be about 4 weeks of below average conditions on that course. Membership has been brainwashed into thinking "good" is now "excellent" so new course owner doesn't have to make an effort to improve conditions. Still hitting off worn down mats at driving range. Putting green is by far best conditioned of all greens. 2 ft faster on stimp.

Maybe one day we return to the first class experience we are paying all the $ for but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

I was in the area and I decided to check this out never being here before. Nice little 9 hole course off the end of the 605 and Huntington Drive. They have a nice little driving range, restaurant and the course is short (1635 9 holes). A mixture of 3's (5) and 4's (4). All of varying length. Course is kept in nice shape and you can walk or ride. I enjoyed the condition of the course and the availability to use many clubs unlike many Par 3's. Had a great hamburger/fries in the restaurant. Great way to kill time if you are in the area, or just want to hit balls or play 9. Great customer service. It also looks like they have a great Jr program and a good # of instructors avaialble.

Walked the Oranges Monday afternoon 10/21/24 joined by my buddy Steve out from the Midwest at 140pm. Pop was 4 hrs 25 minutes. We were joined by a nice twosome under 83 degree weather with no wind. The sun setting on the back nine was for sure a camera day with how nice the conditions are now. I will echo Kevin's review below:

Greens were in great shape very soft and receptive and rolling at a medium pace maybe around a 10 on the stimp. Beautiful challenging/undulating greens here. Rated 8.5/10

Fairways were very nice for late October very lush, perfect lies. Pleasure to hit from. Rated 8.5/10

Tees very lush, mostly all level and in good shape. Rated 8/10

Fairway and greenside rough were in nice shape. Rated 8/10.

Was only in one bunker fairway bunker left on 17 that was in good shape. Rated 7.5/10

For the money this course is one of the best conditioned courses you can play in California. Add in great layout, friendly staff and usually great weather. Highly recommended and lots of cool eating options post round at either their restaurant or in downtown ojai.

Joined an out-of-town friend from Arizona who loves Oceanside, who secured a mid-afternoon tee time. (A time I rarely play) I was impressed with all the improvement they have made to the course, particularly with the bunkers. Greens still have not totally recovered from the recent punching, but they rolled acceptably well with OK speed. The enlargement of the greens is noticeable, but I Personally prefer small greens. Fairways still have some issues, but not a big deal. I would have struggled with the pace of play, but it was more about spending time with my friend, so didn't seem to focus on it too much. Glad Oceanside is back open, so I can place it back in the rotation.

Arrived at 6:10am and noticed people already heading towards the 1st tee, so off I went flashlight in hand. Let me tell you it was pitch black at that time. I really did not see my first shot until the par 3 fifth hole. (I might mention I was not the first out either) The greens still have not totally recovered from the punching, and were a bit bumpy, but had surprisingly good pace. Generally, the course was in overall nice shape. I had a lot of maintenance on the back nine, so my experience was not as positive as it usually is playing here. The best part of the day was traffic returning home was great. What does that say about everything?

Had to try Morongo Champions again after about 5 months, Waste of time. The Indians that own this course will not spend a dime on maintenance and it is a sad thing as the course was originally perfection. We spent 4 and half hours shacking our heads at what used to be, moving the ball all over to hit out of grass instead of dirt on too many fairways, we gave up by the back nine and just played bunkers as ground never going to be repaired. Course is a nice mix of challenging holes but the maintenance of the place just makes one sad.

Got out early before the heat. $23.25 to walk with Sr County card. Found the course to be in relatively good shape. No issues with the tee boxes. Fairways had some dry areas but overall had decent coverage, good lies and good roll out. Bunkers were clean/playable and heard no complaints. Very little rough outside the fairways and what was there was playable. Greens were great for being punched 3 weeks ago. Good customer service all around. Long course but I made my own yardage so that it would come out to 6000 yards which made it much more playable for me than 6640 or 6864 from back/middle tees.

I played here last Sunday in a small tournament. 10 AM tee. Course conditions were very good overall. Greens were in good condition, soft, rolling at a medium speed, with few ball marks. Fairways and rough had great turf coverage. Very few bare or thin areas. We played the avocado tees and they were level and lush. Bunker sand was plentiful, but some traps needed raking and many of them were on the damp side. Decent food and drinks in the clubhouse.
