After a couple of bike rides this week it was time to get some sun on the legs and go for a walk with the clubs. DeepSea14 joined me mid day at Baylands for a great afternoon of golf on the links style course. Unfortunately, the course was in poor shape. Greens were fine in that they rolled fairly smooth at great medium fast pace. Greens were a tad on the firm side but not too bad. Green complexes here are multi tiered and definitely offer some challenge. Fairways were pretty beat up. Just short of horrible. Very patchy grass with several thin and dirt areas throughout. Tee boxes were beyond horrible. In fact horrible would have been welcomed. Most tee boxes were 98% dirt.

The two sand traps I was in were both ok, One was half filled with a lot of fluffy sand while the other half was a bit thin. Still very playable and acceptable. POP of play was right at about 4 hrs. No one in front or behind us on the front nine then we caught the Bay Area traffic on the back nine and waited on every shot. But not too bad. Right now, I can’t recommend this course at the price range but I’ll try again in a month or so and see if it improves.

Played today. Course is shaping up very nicely. Tee boxes all mowed, cleaned and in great shape. Fairways all mowed, cleaned and beginning to fill in so lies are improving and roll out is very good. Traps are kept cleaned so playing early is premium for best shape and all new sand in them has improved them completely. Very little rough to deal with so that is a plus. Greens have come back from aeration and fungus removable to be really great on all 18. Customer service continues to be A+ and the restaurant is serving good food at very reasonable prices.

Not ideal, but very playable... divots in the fairway, ball marks not repaired, etc. Greens running a fast 10... bumpy, lots of ball marks. The one bunker i landed, hole 16 greenside. it was hard packed, no sand.. was able to chip it out. I always enjoy this course, not long, but not easy. Can go low here due to shorter holes, but overall, need to hit it straight and putt well on these huge greens.

Our men's club was kicked off Native Oaks due to a tournament so Dos Osos was gracious enough to host us this week. They charged us $69 for a Sat at 7:30 AM and that is a total steal for this place. I had always seen this course online but the condition reviews were always 50/50 so I never pulled the trigger. I am unsure if they have new owners, but I do know JC Golf has taken over and they are putting a ton of money into the course. The starter was very friendly and was talking to us about all of the work that they have done and what is still upcoming on their list. All of the sand has been replaced, and most of the greens have been redone with the others still having some work done on them. Most of the fairways had great coverage with a few of them looking like they were fully reseeded. Rough is a little rough around the edges but the staff mentioned they are focusing on the greens and fairways first. The carts are basic with no accessories but work just fine I assume once they have their Grand Re-Opening they will replaced but for now, they are fine.

I really enjoyed the layout as there are some good doglegs and a nice mix of lengths on the par 3's. Their Signature hole with the fountain will need some work as I was told the fountain hasn't been on in many years and the lake is stagnant. Comparing it to similar courses nearby I would put it behind Native Oaks and Mt. Woodson but given the conditions, I would gladly play here as long as it's in the $80 range on weekends.

First out on a cool morning, which quickly turned into a really beautiful morning, clear and warm. Although there are still numerous areas in some of the fairways which are in desperate need of attention. (Like some actual grass) the fairways have improved. Greens rolled well and had decent speed, while still receptive. Tee boxes are improved as have the bunkers with the addition of new sand in spots. I still feel the sand in the greenside bunkers need to be modified in how they are raked to allow for the club to pass through, rather than just having the top layer groomed and a too firm subsurface underneath.

Morning weekday 4.25 hour round with a couple of singles. The staff is great and the practice facilities adequate for the numbers they generally have playing. The carts are nice enough with very basic GPS that is not real accurate. The tee boxes had good coverage with a couple of them being slightly sloped. There are many forced carry holes throughout the round starting with the first tee. The rough was in good shape and short enough to advance the ball but penal in sections. The fairways all had really good coverage and provided usually good lies. You can find places that are thin and maybe slightly dry but they're where you probably shouldn't be! The traps all had good sand in them but some were damp and heavy. The greens where great! The greens are in the best shape I've seen them in ever over the years of playing here. The firmness of them required a well struck shot with some spin to get the ball to hold. Many shots into the greens would have quite a bit of roll out. There were very few ball marks and the lines held well with a good roll. They are very large which provides a better chance at finding them and keeping your ball on them. The pace of play was great with the marshal being seen a few times during the round. The wildlife was out on the course as you usually see here as well. The course is in very good condition and the weekday rates are reasonable. Recommended

Course continues to be in very nice condition with most nights in the mid 40's and most days in the mid 70's. Played several times this week in a 1-2 club wind with good POP.

Tees and fairways lush and well maintained. Sand near immaculate. Rough mostly dormant Bermuda. Lies can vary from looking like it was teed up on a tee box to sitting down so much advancing it with a longer club probably not happening within a small area.

Bermuda greens are the hi-light here. Smooth, firm and medium fast. Chips w/o spin downhill may not stop until they reach the other side fringe. Almost no ball marks, putts roll really well.

Restaurant good for a golf course. Customer service excellent both inside/outside the club. Practice facilities and the GPS on the carts both excellent. Men's lounge nice place to have a meal or get a drink with numerous big screen TV's in a friendly atmosphere.

I previously commented on what IMO was the over reach and heavy handed approach of a few employees and volunteers here. Someone must have listened to my detailed critique with numerous examples I had witnessed others be subjected to on club survey's. At least in my presence, the few that were going overboard are much more customer service and make the guest feel welcome oriented. Nice and welcome improvement in one of the few complaints I have had about anything in my 4 years here.

Played today. Course is still damp and needs a lot of drying out. Tee boxes were mowed but not cleaned but no issues. Fairways are still soft so no roll out at all. Traps surprisingly are playable but still need players to use rakes. Rough was still damp in some areas but not penal. Greens are some good/some bad relative to speed and lots of unrepaired divots. Hard to be to harsh on the course given the recent rains. Maintenance is working to clean it up and with more sunshine it shoud be much more playable. Great customer service from Christian, Madison and Rich.

Finally played again after several months of layoff due to injury recovery. Played here on 2/17 with a 12 noon tee time and 4.5 hour pace of play. I have never liked this course in particular and today was no different. It remains a bizarre layout, with mediocre conditions, and very little services to speak of. No restaurant, bar, or cart going around. The greens were the only part worth mentioning and they were running a nice 10/11 depending on uphill or downhill. Firm, very little ball marks, rolled smooth. The tees, fairways, rough and bunkers were awful, plain and simple. I won't be returning anytime soon, if ever, and cannot recommend at this time.

Sunday round with three friends and gorgeous views of the recently snowed-in mountains throughout the day - good times. We played from the blue tees and rode (don't think you're allowed to walk this hilly course?). Got an online rate of $78 per person and that was more than fair.

Conditions are pretty good across the board right now at Westridge (especially after the recent rains but having had enough time for them to dry out). The greens are most certainly the highlight as they're really nice right now. Green complexes are pretty tricky to be honest so you've got to get your lines and speed dialed in or it's going to be a rough day.

Fairway coverage is mostly good in the right areas but there are a good amount of dirt areas just before the fairways so it's imperative to have a strong tee game right now. Still found some thin spots here and there as well but overall not too bad. Rough varied from spot to spot and there are a lot of native areas where you can pick up and move. Bunkers were generally okay - not terrible, not great. Tee boxes were mostly good so no major complaints there.

No cart service all afternoon and POP wasn't fantastic but nothing overwhelmingly bad either. The carts are nice but do not have any GPS functionality so it's really important here to have a rangefinder with slope - lots and lots of elevations and strategic shots required. Some very narrow holes too - the first two shots on the uphill par 5 2nd hole are some of the tightest you will ever find.

Course layout is definitely fun and engaging and when it's in good condition it's worth the drive.

Played Saturday February 15, the only decent weather day this week. Misting in the morning but the sun came out in the earlier afternoon and it got into the 60s. The course was crowded, surprising because I got the single 8:523 tee time the night before. 5 hour POP even with marshals out there working the course. Played with three nice locals.

The course is in decent winter shape. The course had obviously been hit hard with rain recently with many wet spots and lines of loose material where it had washed up. Other than mud on the ball and not much roll, it did not affect the golf. Dormant Bermuda grass with tight lies in the fairways and rough not really a factor. In one sand trap that was in good shape. The greens were really nice, good medium fast speed.

I really like the layout. Being able to hit the ball better this time, I got a better sense of what to hit. I rued not using driver on a couple of holes where there was more room than it looked. Some interesting doglegs over creeks to narrow greens.

Played here for the first time. The front 9 is very short and back 9 is very long. Greens were bumpy and slow but this was right after all the heavy rains. Fairways had OK coverage, same for the rough, both having some bare spots. Traps were wet, some filled with water. Overall, I thought is was a fun layout. Cart girls came around several times. Pace was around 4:45. Good for a muni, will likely try again in summer when conditions should improve.
