I finally made it out to Discovery Bay. This course had been on my play list a few years back but it dropped off the radar due to some logistical reasons. DeepSea14 made the suggestion a couple weeks ago and we were able to make it happen on Wednesday. The course is set within a housing community and you pretty much have houses on each side of the fairway and water in the middle or boarding the edges. The layout reminds me a lot of Pheasant Run in Chowchilla It wouldn’t surprise me if the course and community designer were the same for both. Discovery Bay is flat and would easily be walkable.

I arrived early and headed to the range which was on mats that day. No worries, It was very foggy for the hour or so when I was warming up. To the point that my range finder wouldn’t shoot through the fog to get me a distance.

Once Peter arrived we headed off and like he said we started on hole 2. Course is in full winter mode condition wise. Some brown and thin areas on the fairways but overall very playable.

Greens rolled smooth at a medium pace. Greens were modest in size with just enough undulations to keep things interesting but not overwhelming or ridiculous. Greens held approach shots well.

Fairways were decent enough. Thin in a few areas, but overall acceptable and what you’d expect from a nice “muni” type course. Sand traps were a bit thin. Tee boxes were flat and perfectly groomed.

Overall it was a fun track and I’d play it again for sure.

Early morning Sunday 4.5 hour round. The staff was short the starter but getting out early wasn't an issue. Trying to book a weekend tee time is an issue now since they've started requiring golfers to use their booking partner (The criminal Golf Now). The carts are in good shape with some having GPS and others not. Some of the tee boxes were thin but all level. The rough is playable where there is some. Many of the holes have thin to no rough which was not an issue. The fairways are in very good condition with great lies from start to finish. Many of the fairways have a mix of dormant to semi dormant Bermuda and other types of grass. The bunkers are are a mix with most being in really good condition. They were all groomed nicely and most had nice white sand. The fairway bunkers were the only issue with compact thin brown sand and a few pebbles. The greens were really nice and extremely quick from start to finish. The front nine greens were a little bumpy with the aeration still visible. The back nine greens were near perfect. The greens had very few ball marks and quickened as the round progressed. The rack rates are still reasonable in comparison to other local courses. That had become an issue with ALL the local valley courses raising their rates ridiculously. Recommended

Out early on a colder morning, but it warmed up quickly to provide some very nice golfing conditions. Not much change from my last visit here a month ago. Greens a little quicker maybe. Still tough to putt and chip too. Overall course is in good shape, and I recommend trying this gem for any who have not yet experienced it. Just don't expect to eat this short course up, because it will eat you up instead.

Played Wednesday December 11 around 8:30 am. I got my Senior Card earlier in the week but when I tried to use it I was told no discount before 9:00 am. Oh well. POP around 4:20.

The course was pretty dry, running fast in the fairways. My approach on 16 was about 175 yards playing a low cut shot around a tree. I ended up hole high, rolling the last 40 yards. The lies were okay in the fairways and a mixed bag in the rough. The greens were outstanding. They were the fastest I have seen in a while. I four putted the first green. The speed accentuated the break more than usual throughout the course. Really a fun day for putting.

Well worth the price even without the senior discount.

Played MSQ on 12/12/14. Fairways / Rough / Traps all in very good shape for a muni. Greens were quite good, smooth and quick, but not too quick. Surprisingly, not an ocean of ball marks on greens. Need to add this one back onto my bargain rotation, it was a fun day.

Highly recommended.

Still sad to see the Players course remnants out there, with nobody at all using the new park facilities.

Have not played here since it opened in May. Decided I wanted to only play 9 today and walk so here is where I went. Got right out and have to say, though $32 to walk 9 seems high, the course condtions were superb. Pace of play under 2 hours and the course very quite. Tee boxes were excellent. Fairways have great coverage, lies and terrific roll out. They also are much wider than they were on the old course. No rough to speak of and 1 water hazard on # 8. So not much trouble. Traps are all great. Greens are wonderful and chip/putt great as well and IMO speed of about 10. Great customer service which is now located out of their brand new clubhouse. Looking for a quick 9 this just might be what you are looking for.

Played with Alex326 Wednesday 12/11 with calm weather. Using the golfmoose deal offer. Prior review is a good overview of playing conditions. The green complexes raised with surrounding humps and protective bunkers.
This was my target course when the nice weather window of the last couple weeks was forecast. Not ideal as Baylands last Friday but cool with a lingering fog resistant to fully burn off.
Cool vibe atmosphere here. A locals course with many custom carts. Laid back membership friendly and inviting.
I was held up by traffic and rerouted. Was late for our tee time. We made a move and skipped the first hole bypassing a 4-some who happily waved us through. As did another group on the 11th. Played the 1st as our 18th to finish.
The course: solid CC conditions in transition to winter. Fairways offered tight lies and short rough allowed a chance at recovery. Bunkers were compact in the bottoms well maintained.
Greens nice rolling smooth med pace with tiers and undulations on many of them.
Tee boxes (white tees for us) all excellent flat and ample. Enough so that when I commented on them. Alex thought they could reverse rout play and cut them tighter and putt on them. Not normally a highlight of my reviews but they stood out to me.
It'd be a challenge in the wind and I sought out this venue cuz Alex said he like courses with water. Most holes have it. Like Florida with no gators.
We had a side bet on the water losses and I was on the bad side of that 5-1. OB into the housing or the aqua the places that add penalties to the card.

Recommend. A nice place to play in the Delta region. Look to the forums for the "rest of the story"....

An epic day at Goose Creek was had by GK Cup 20 final foursome on Saturday 12-7-2024. Always a pleasure to tee it up with mpisarski01, roarksown1 and Dconnally. The match was close all the way down to the final hole. Check out the recap in the forums. I’ll also be posting some videos on the Greenskeeperorg YouTube Channel.

We could not have picked a better local course, or better weather in December, to play our championship this Saturday. The conditions were “dialed in” – Everything was lush, the sand white/beautiful, and greens running medium/fast/smooth. Pace of play starting on a packed Saturday 9:55am was still sub 4 ½ hours.

After the round we had a casual GK Cup ceremony on the patio, enjoyed a cold one and hung out a while. Hard not to at The Goose.

Saturday looked like a golf playground of kids embracing, learning and enjoying the game. Their massive practice/golf learning facilities and exceptional teaching staff had their hands full.

In the 20+ years’ operating Greenskeeper.org, I can’t think of a golf course that has done more to grow the game and provide consistently great golf experiences than Goose Creek Golf Club. Thank You – from all of us that love the game.

Got out here last Sunday, December 8. First thing is a sign at the pro shop warning of a temporary green on Hole 2. Apparently, some yahoo did some donuts on the green overnight. Luckily, the damage seemed to be superficial. It did make for a great attempt at eagle, though, as the temporary green was about 100 yards short of the real green. With the weather getting cooler, the course is starting to show some over watered areas on many fairways. Staying out of those areas were challenging as they were not roped off.

Greens were medium speed, soft, and had many ball marks new and old. Not really bumpy but the appearance was just okay. They did speed up as the day went on and putting downhill away from the dam is always going to be faster.

Fairways and rough were decent coverage, but the farther you get from the center the worse the conditions get.

Bunkers were okay, but there's a serious lack of raking going on here. Etiquette might be lost forever.

Tees were level and in okay condition. Some were overly wet, especially in the shade. We all played the White tees, so I can't really comment on the others, but I think there was little difference.

I like the course. I used to work as a greenskeeper here on weekends about 25-30 years ago. Like all LA City courses, this one could be better and cheaper to play. I think it was $52 weekend rate, plus $10 per player to reserve. Ouch!

I played here last Friday, December 6, with some buddies from work. Many areas were over watered, but it's a lot better than it was 10 years ago when the old owners didn't have the water. We played the Valley/Mountain nines. they were overseeded a month ago. The Desert Course is currently under overseeding and maintenance and is closed.

The greens were medium speed and mostly good. Hole #6 on the Mountain Course (a par 3) was not mowed. Maybe it's under some kind of maintenance, but it was shaggy. Soft greens throughout and there were plenty of ball marks to fix.

Fairways were good for coverage. Not as green as you might expect for being overseeded. Very few, if any, bare areas. Plenty of divots in the popular zones; think 100-150 yards to center of the greens.

Rough on this course is a different story. For the most part, there's none. It's thin, bare, and mowed tight so your ball will find its way into the scrub brush for a penalty. There are a lot of burrowing animal holes throughout the rough on this course. Ground squirrels are prevalent here and you could lose a ball or get some terrible lie. There's a premium on fairway shots at this course. Anything else and you're possibly looking at a big score.

Bunkers were a mixed bag of mostly not good. Thin sand here and there, deep and fluffy in others. Typically, it will be more sand around the greens and thin-to-little sand in the fairway bunkers.

Tees were not great. Mountain #8 was undergoing some construction and all moved forward. It did make for some fun shots to go at this green (uphill 285 yards), although it's very well protected with numerous bunkers up the right-hand side.

Overall, the course was okay condition-wise. I really want to say it's great, or even good. I just can't. Maintenance could be stepped up. Maybe increase the size of the landing areas in the fairways and grow some real rough to keep your ball in play. Maybe trim some of the large heritage oak trees that tend to interfere with your shots.

There was no beverage service, but the carts have ice chests and there is ice outside the starters office. Drinks and food are available at the snack bar, but it's not cheap. The upstairs restaurant has long been closed. It's kind of a shame as the restaurant and bar used to be good. The future of this course could be looking up if the owner can build his dream resort like he has planned, but there has been push back from the local community. I will continue to play here occasionally as it's only $55 senior rate M-F.

Played yesterday, 12/9. Cold and damp, late start due to frost delay (fog didn't burn off to let sun thaw out the greens).

Conditions were good for the season, fairways a little patchy but greens were quite good (and fast, too!). Only in one bunker, sand is compact and moist but consistent and playable. Rough is hit & miss with some bare spots, not too high but still affected options and shots. Pace of play was fast - 18 holes in about 2.75 hours (including 15 minutes warming up in the grill between front and back nines). Speaking about the grill - nothing fancy but good quality and reasonably priced.

Played this AM. 45F at tee time but it did warm (thank goodness) up after 9. But it is so nice to be playing golf in Dec. Course is in good shape. Tee boxes good. Traps are playable with the new sand but many players are not raking. Fairways still have good coverage although some bare spots can be found on some. They do provide good lies and roll out. Greens have come back in nice shape, though some still have a little more healing in some areas to do but flag sticks are not in those areas. And they have good speed to them. And it appears players are fixing their divots thankfully. Great customer service in shop from Christian and Madison and from Rich running the cart barn.
