Let's start with the bad: people who stay here can play unlimited golf. It ruins the flow of the guys who traveled far to try and finish on time before sunset.

That being said, if I paid $$$$ to stay here, I would love to take advantage of that perk.

As for the course, love the track! This course has a lot of blind shots, elevated tier greens or tee boxes. Carved nicely within the canyons!!

They play live music here and there around the 9th 10th, and 12th hole! Pretty sweet!!!

This is no longer called the Don Shula Course...it's now the Miami Lakes Golf Club. We played there when they first punched holes so the greens were pretty slow. Course just went though a massive renovation. Love it!!!!! Front nine is wide open with very little trouble. Back nine is a different story. A lot of lakes!!!! The way to play this course, go low as fast as you can since you might run into trouble on the back nine!!!! Since we played the course a few weeks since they punch I can't review the speed of the green appropriately!!!

Memorial Day 6am 1st out 9. Flag was already up on the pole at half staff. Let's go!

Noteworthy The greens are almost healed now need to repair the ball marks left behind.
rolling much better and gaining the usual tricky speeds on downhills and breakers.
Fairways I found more often so can say they're ok too.
Bunkers were being machine worked didn't visit any.

Couple holes with a couple spots of extra wet. One on RS 8 roped off as GUR.
I embedded my pop-up drive short on 9.
Otherwise good fun had by us two. Worthy of higher rating than 3.03

Played this AM. And boy was it windy. Steady wind at 10-15 with gusts of 20-25. Great for the downwind holes murder playing into it.

The course itself is in good shape.

Tee boxes clean and playable.

Fairways are lush with good lies and great rollout, especially today.

Rough is always kept high and no matter where you are on the course it's tough to play out of. Add in the numerous OB areas some water hazards and you can have a tough round.

Traps could use more sand. The course gets a lot of wind because of its location and it takes its toll on the bunkers.

Greens are good size but all of them are either elevated from the fairway or guarded by bunkers. You need a good high ball game with your irons or be a good chipper of the ball for when you come up short.

Great grill/restaurant after ones round or even making the turn. Everyones favorite breakfast burrito $7. Coffee $1.50. Draft
$4. And no tax.

Course is not on the base and open to the public.

Played a twilight round yesterday had the course almost to myself and son. Great POP of 3.5 H.

Course is in excellent shape at the moment.

Tee boxes all level and playable.

Fairways are wide lush, groomed and provided great rollout and lies all round.

Traps were all in good shape and most of them had been raked by previous players and much appreciated.

Rough here is kept at about1" all the time and tends to be tough to play out of. A must to hit the fairway to score here.

Greens are HUGE as mentioned previously. Takes some time to learn them to get close to some of the pin placements. Still learning but getting better. If one can play a round here w/o a 3 putt congratulations.

Great customer service at all levels.

IMO one of the finest public golf courses in all of CA. Highly recommended.

RPGC played this weekend's tournament at Simi Hills ... always a pleasure to return to this consistently solid 18 and even better on a perfect late spring afternoon. Our group had a 12:10 tee time and played from the gold tees. Recommendation: Epic breakfast burrito at the cafe bar.

Good practice/warm-up facilities ... nice carts but no GPS. Off we went. Fairways have seen better days for sure but still very playable - just too many thin and brown lies in comparison to past visits, but confident it will be back to its best in the future. Plenty of mulch/hillside areas to force some unwanted shots, but the rough is good if you find it ... varies by hole. Tee boxes were mostly fine with a few exceptions, while the bunkers were a bit on the crunchy side ... not a hint of fluffy, but the club does what it's supposed to down there.

Greens are really good right now. Very speedy, nice surfaces and real consistent from one to 18. In truth, they're tougher than they look and with their current pace, I had forgotten how tricky they can be to the tune of an awful 37 putts on the day. Subtle slopes and tiers make you earn it but you can still score well if you're putting better than I was today.

We had cart service swing by twice during the round, and POP wasn't much of an issue as the group ahead of us moved quickly and we had to do a good job of keeping up ... not pushed much from behind though, either. We had a pretty good slot all in all.

I always enjoy trips to Simi Hills and today's experience won't make that change anytime soon.

Played today on another cool morning in N CA.

Found the course in better shape this week than last. Lots of mowing and clean up has really been done.

Tee boxes were all clean and playable.

Rough was not as severe this week as it was much easier to play out of and advance the ball greater distances.

Fairways all had good coverage (number 15 needs some help) good rollout and lies.

Traps could really use some more sand as they are all thinly covered.

Greens were faster today when chipping or putting and they held shots better as well. Many of the greens here are elevated from the fairway so using a GPS to get correct yardage is very helpful.

Great service in the shop from Brad.

Still a great deal at $49 w cart for the weekend. $39 weekday. Walking $23.

Played this morning. Now I believe what Mark Twain said "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco". Boy was it cold here this morning.

After playing the East and now the West I love both of them. They are both totally different in every way, except the elevation changes each course presents. And these elevation changes are fun and also difficult.

Sr rate with cart $47 and $2 coffee which was much needed.

Course was in immaculate shape from tee to green. Customer service was excellent from all encountered.

The E course is par 70. W par 71. 4 par 3's but terrific length and challenge of each one. 3 par 5's and they are all long, uphill and difficult. If you thought # 17 at Westridge was a challenge these 3 are so much harder.

OK with that said, the greens are all small compared to many of the courses today and fast. So having a high ball flight is a premium on this course. And 2 putts are not guaranteed. Especially if playing it for the first time.

Tee boxes all level and playable. B, W, G, R for players of various skills.

Fairways are not wide and they are guarded by some of the deepest rough I have seen in quite awhile. Balls just nestle down and never stay on top of the rough.

Traps were not the best, in one and the sand was almost non existent. Heard many complaints from the locals I played with.

POP was excellent at 3.5 H.

Blue Rock Springs is a great municipal venue and I will be going back often. But only if it is warmer. If you are ever in the Vallejo area and have time to play. You should make plans to do so.

Clearly, there is some maintenance going on here. Several fairways on the front nine were kind of chewed up presumably because these patches were burned out. If this is already happening in May, it's going to be a long summer. The greens appeared to have a light layer of sand on them. The pace of play was too slow for a late morning Thursday tee off time. Expected pace was 4 hours 25 minutes. With all of the waiting around, it took us 5 hours. However, the bunkers had the best sand I've seen in a long time. Why can't other golf courses get some sand like this?
