I played in a tournament so I received a group rate green fees. At this time, this course is not worth the rack rate price. The tee boxes have a lot of crab grass or bare spots. The roughs are thick (not recently mowed) or bare spots where grass is being planted. The fairways have a lot of "ground under repair" and have been overwatered in low spots. The greens are in better shape by comparison. A little bumpy but overall nice.

The carts had messages warning of the GUR but it was not the Tijeras Creek I used to love to play in the past.

Played here on 8/2 and was super hyped for the round, but left feeling underwhelmed. There is no driving range, you hit into a big net. I was pretty disappointed with this part of the course. They do have a nice chipping area and two practice greens which seemed to roll true to the course greens. No GPS on the carts, but you can use their free phone app that works OK. The course itself was great, except the bunkers. Tee boxes were nice, flat and lush. Fairways were like a sponge which I really like and the greens were a little shaggy but rolled good enough. Worth playing once for some of the views, however, I dont know that I would be back.

Played here on 8/1 in the morning. Course was in fantastic shape. They have a very large putting and chipping area, along with a driving range. Balls are provided as part of your tee time. Course was in really great shape, tee boxes were flat and lush, same with the fairways. This course isnt extremely tough, as long as you arent going left and right all day and even then, you might be OK. Bunkers were all nice and fluffy, not many rocks or debris in them which was nice. Pace of play was good, we took about 4 hours and 45 minutes. Overall, I think this is one of the best courses out in Palm Springs.

Played here on 7/31 in the late morning. Weather was hot (107) but I had a blast. I had originally went to kill time before finishing my trip to Palm Springs and had decided to just hit balls on the range, however, their head Groundskeeper James twisted my arm into playing and I sure am glad he did. The range was nice, its fully grass and plenty big enough to rip driver. There is a large putting green just before the first tee which rolled true to the course. James let me know ahead of time there was a fungus on a few of the tee boxes and they wouldnt look as good as the rest of the course, and he was right, but it didnt bother my play at all. Course was fun, not very long distance wise and if you dont got too left or right youll end up in play. Some great elevation tee shots, lots of lizards, birds and snakes around. Overall, I would highly recommend playing at Oak Valley if youre in the area, I know I will be back.

What heat wave?

Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo, CA (Ventura County) was once again a fantastic host for our golf outing on Monday, August 3rd. Besides being treated to a fun challenging layout, with great views, beautiful playing conditions, and exceptional tournament services; Camarillo is ideal for beating the heat as we had pleasant coastal weather with highs in low 80’s.

Thank you everyone that comes out to these Vivid Golf/Greenskeeper.org/Golf Moose Private Club events! Its so good to see many Greenskeeper.org members + the regular players/small groups that join in on the fun. One of big hits with these events is the pre-round putting skill challenge for a free Vivid Golf premium polo gift card. These are high quality, high-end polos now in over 500 proshops across the United States. Players get two chances to make a moderately challenging putt to win. The skill challenge in included with the cost of entry for the event. It has become very popular with a large line of players collectively reading the putt and cheering each other on. Everyone gets a chance to win.

Played this morning just before 7:30 am, trying to beat the heat. I walked from the black tees playing as a single. Pace of play was about 4 hours. The foursome I ran up against on #5 asked if I wanted to play through but I told them to go ahead as I was fine with the pace. There was a brief delay when one of their players collapsed next to the 17th green but he was able to drive himself back to the clubhouse when he was able to get up. Otherwise a pleasant walk on a nice morning.

The course is in fine shape right now. The greens are really nice. Soft with extra water being put on them because of the heat, the were running fast and true. No excuses on these greens (unfortunately). The rough is cut down but still not easy to deal with. The fairways were beautiful for the most part although there were some burned out areas in both the fairways and the rough. There was not as much run as normal because of the watering. The tee boxes still have some issues with levelness but the grass was lush and really nice for the most part. Far better than I am used to in my LA County courses.

The course is well worth playing if you are in the area. Use your bug spray as I was warned by a patron in the pro shop.

Played in the Men’s Club Event today and was impressed with the overall condition of the golf course, especially when considering this prolonged heat wave we’ve been dealing with.

Tee boxes were in good shape although a few presented some slight undulations that affected ball and/or foot placement. Fairways were healthy and green, thereby providing excellent lies but little roll-out.

Kikuyu rough is thriving right now…and a bit longer than usual in some places…so enter at your own risk. Shots around the green are quite the challenge; it takes a bit more speed than you may think is necessary in order to get the ball to jump. Few, if any, options to ‘get cute’ on a delicate shot if you happen to find yourself in this stuff. It’s basically ‘hit and hope’ so be sure to weigh the pros and cons accordingly when assessing your shot.

Greens were a touch slower than what I would normally encounter here but still rolled true. Could be the extra water being applied in order to keep them from burning out in the heat. As a result, was able to get a 4-wood to settle down within 6 feet of it’s pitch mark on one hole and throw a wedge into #18 that literally ‘stopped on a dime’.

While a few holes showed more cosmetic damage than others due to old, unattended ball marks…such as #1, which always seems to have this problem…I really had no complaints. And with the increased watering around the greens, many of the previously worn down or barren fringe areas now offer healthier lies to chip/pitch from where putter was the best choice earlier this summer.

Did not face any sand shots today but the traps are usually well maintained and quite playable as a rule. There aren’t any steep-faced bunkers to navigate so you’ll most often encounter a fairly straightforward shot.

I’d give ‘AB’-North a strong recommendation if you’re looking for a solid venue that offers a lot of value at an attractive rate. White tee markers were pushed way back on many holes today so the course played longer than usual; with little roll out…and a steady 15MPH wind in our faces over the final six holes…it took some solid ball-striking to navigate that stretch successfully.

Review from 7/31. South Course will be closed this week to aerate greens. If they turn out as well as the North, it will be amazing. Summer heat has taken its toll on the fairways, particularly holes 11 thru 13, which because of the clay soil on these holes, is an annual problem. Otherwise, the course has held up rather well.

Rode the Blues this morning 8/3/26 as part of the GK/Golfmoose event under beautiful weather around 80 degrees with light winds. Joined by buddies John, Ron and Mark. Pop was 4 hrs 45 minutes. Great staging area for an event with the driving range, putting green and chipping area all close in proximity.

Greens looked and putted pure and fantastic. They putted just a tad slower than they looked and held shots very well. Some small and some large green complexes. Most greens here slope back to front so staying below the hole is paramount. Rated 8.5/10

Fairways were nicely cut and padded kikuya based grass that was in great shape! Rated 8.5/10

Rough was thicker kikuya that was higher than the fairways. Most rough sections just feet off the fairways provided nice flier lies. The rough greenside on some holes was thicker and grabby. Rated 8.5/10

Tees were mainly level and in nice shape. Rated 8/10

Only in one greenside bunker that had nice quality sand in it.

Las Posas is a ballstrikers players course where long/straight provides birdie opportunities and crooked provides danger on most holes here. Need to work the ball both ways off the tee here on the back nine. Well guarded greens with superb bunkers surrounding them. Couple nice challenging longer par 3s on the front and two quirky par 5s on the back.

Overall fun course to play with some slight elevation changes here and there.

Don't miss Oscar's grill just to the right of 18 green. Some of the best food in the county.

Heat index was expected to be high as forecasted today with less than 10mph of breeze… clear skies.
I made my tee time this morning and was glad I got in time- $55 for seniors. I was also supposed to be the 4th in a group but it has been suggested for me to take off alone (perfect, I said to myself!). The same group who let me go alone ended up in the group with me as the group in front struggled to move forward. It took me an hour to get through #8 and the rest of the four hours were just waiting.
Anyway, as a first timer here, I was just waiting for some quirky surprise design and sure enough it showed up on #10, the short par 4, there’s water before the green and it isn’t visible from the tee. That’s what I get for going alone- no one can guide or tell me anything about the holes. Other than that the course is in front of you all day.
It’s really a fun course and doesn’t beat you up much- very forgiving.
The first few greens are rough around the edges but you can tell that they are trying to keep the course in order. The greens weren’t fast at all- if I had to guess it could be 8-9. The greens are not bermuda and I’m guessing it’s bent grass? It’s also very receptive. I’m sure they can make it faster during cooler months. No much divots but there’s always something in front of you that you’re going to need to fix.
Bunkers I was in one of the fairway bunkers and that didn’t have much sand which was okay. A couple around the greens that I was in were okay- it had sand and it was okay on the thin sand side.
The roughs were mixed kikuyu and other types of flat laying weeds. They’re healthier and thicker around the green side but not many bare areas.
The fairways were fair. Some were closely mowed more than others- and not too many unfixed divots.
There are plenty of water in their lakes but nothing to worry about- they really have wide fairways.
Their teeing grounds were fine, I played the whites. 41-36 for a 77… which I’m sure this is pretty normal around here for players with 10.xx index or maybe I got lucky- I had a great day.
I’ll play this again if I’m around the area.
Did not see a beverage cart come around but maybe it’s early in the day. The staff here are pleasant. They really aim for all guests to have their needs before teeing off. Dave the starter got me the senior rate just from asking my age. I had a good experience to say the least.

Saturday round under the blazing sun at Hansen Dam this weekend with a brutal 11:40am tee time ... definitely riding under those Saharan conditions. Played from the blues this time around with a friend and got paired with two fun singles.

No way to avoid the heat out there in Pacoima so the hot weather is definitely leaving its mark on the course, but it's still in good, playable condition with some hot spots. The fairways on the front nine seemed to be in a bit more lush shape than the back nine, but again - all playable. No big problems in the rough but the tee boxes were definitely feeling some of the wear and tear. I did not land in any bunkers all day but sand looked decent and heard no complaints.

Greens were actually rolling pretty nicely and consistently all afternoon. They held shots well and were rolling pretty true at medium-fast speeds. No real gimmicky greens at Hansen, with the exception of the 18th green that is pretty severely slanted and it all comes down to pin position on that hole if you're going to make a big number.

In terms of amenities, well, it's a bit of a mess right now at Hansen. The clubhouse is all boarded up and looks closed, but it's actually not - you just have to use the front entrance or the one near the first tee. The most convenient one by the starter's office (and at the turn) is closed off right now. Driving range is pretty good and has some covered stalls to keep the sun off of you a bit.

Overall I have seen and played Hansen in better conditions, but if you take the late, hot summer into account, then it's punching a little above its weight overall right now.

Finally got a chance to play here as weekend tee times for civilians are hard to come by. We finished in just under 5 hours with some waiting between holes. Not bad for teeing off at 3pm on a Sunday.

The course itself is very fun and a great layout. Tee boxes and fairways had excellent coverage. Unfortunately the players do not take care of it. Severe ball marks on nearly every green. I could easily fix 10 ball marks just in my own area. Rake the d%mn bunkers people. It's not just one person either, I saw multiple tracks and hit marks in every single greenside bunker.
