Played here this morning. Very heavy fog for the first 3/4 holes and then the sun came out. And then you saw the beautiful area you were in.

While the course is lined with homes you really are not affected by them unless you are so wild then you should not be playing golf. And the views of Bodega Bay and the ocean are prevelant on almost every hole adding to the beauty of the area.

I was fortunate enough to play with two guys from Santa Rosa who play here often and that was helpful. They said the first 4 holes are difficult and the last 3 are as well. But I found only the first two holes difficult and the last 3 I would not use the word difficult. But this is a family site after all (more later).

As I said when the sun came out you could see what a great looking course this is. Unfortunately the fog had been so heavy that the course was very damp most of the round.

I would not call the course very long (6284 B 5892 B 5465 W) but with the elevation changes and the routing of holes with many with side hill lies and rough that is thick and nasty + many traps it plays harder than what the scorecard shows. Add in a day of fog, wind and that would make things even better LOL.

A great mixture of 3, 4, 5 pars to keep you interested the whole round.

Tee boxes all level and clean.

Fairways wide with great coverage but early morning dampness controlled roll out but the lies were great all round.

Traps were in excellent shape. In two and no issues playing out of them. Same for my partners.

Greens are large. Much larger than I expected. Most have undulations and they to were damp so putting was slow for the first 9 holes but back 9 they had speed and you did not want to be above any hole.

Now for #16, 17 and 18. (You can see pics on the club site.) And they are all on the ocean.

16 and 17 are in an environmental marsh. I have never seen anything like this before. You have to park your cart and take clubs or your whole bag (pull carts are provided but they are old and heavy) and walk over the wooden walkways to play these two holes.

16 requires you to hit over high marsh and your landing area is at least 190-215 yards from the Black, Blue and White tees. The Gold tee markers are on the other side of the marsh for we seniors LOL.

#17 is a par 3 and also you hit over the marsh to an uphill green guarded by a front bunker.

I have no idea what happens if someone in your group has trouble walking? But my guess would be they skip those two holes? And a handicap player would not play them either.

So after playing 16/17 you put your clubs back on your cart and proceed to the 18th hole. And what a finishing hole.

459 yds from B/Blue and the tee sets 50/60 yards below the fairway. White tee is up on the hill above and level with fairway. And the green sits some 50/75/100 + yards below where the fairway ends depending upon how long your drive is. Huge trees line the left side down the green which is gaurded by one huge bunker and large undulating green.

So start out with 2/3/4 hard holes and end with 3 unique holes like nothing I have ever seen before in all my years of golf and you have a round of golf that will stay in your mind for years to come.

I am glad I played it and I would go back again w/o hesitation. $80 w cart I felt was good price for a resort course like this.

Great customer service. Small shop and snack bar. Hitting bays to warm up. Two good putting greens. Great carts with a good GPS. Excellent restaurant on site called Bluewater Lounge with great food, drinks and views.

Bodega Harbour is conveniently situated along the Sonoma County Coast, only an hour from San Francisco and two hours from Sacramento. Using 101 N, US 1 N or I 80 W to Hwy 12 through Napa and Sonoma.

I am not going to say this a "Pebble Beach" look alike. But it is a great great links golf course that anyone who loves golf would love to play.

Played this morning. Relatively cool weather, under 100 degrees. The course is in good shape. Greens rolled true, somewhat soft, medium speed. Lots of undulations throughout the course, creating good sight-lines for drives and approach shots. Very good customer service. Nice clubhouse and pro shop.

I played here late Wednesday morning using an online rate from Teeoff.com. At $35 I expected a dog track, but no! The course was in excellent condition. Nice grass range and chipping green. I encountered many maintenance personnel working on the course.

Greens were medium speed with no ball marks or anything negative.

Fairways and rough were in good condition without any issues. The rough was long enough to be penal but not so long you couldn’t see your ball. Lots of roll out on the fairways. Plenty of room as well.

Tees were level and in great shape.

Sand was in good condition.

All in all, I would play here again.

My first event and first-time playing Candlewood CC.

Teed it up with rgm2525, ag2000 and sparky14. It was super day but nothing can top witnessing sparky14 make his first hole-in-one on hole 8. Wow!

Candlewood CC is short regulation well-maintained private course in Whittier, CA. Despite the long hot dry summer in SoCal, Candlewood CC provided lush fairways and only few brown spots in the rough. It’s a bermunda/kikuyu turf is ideal in regard to heat tolerance as long as it well watered. Candlewood CC, as evidenced by the moist turf conditions we experienced, is keeping the course well-watered.

From an event organizer’s standpoint, the staging area is excellent for a large group. The driving range, proshop, practice putting, snack bar/restaurant are all conveniently located to players golf carts. The layout, short, but challenging, yet not too difficult provided a quick pace of play with lots of fun holes. The entire staff was friendly and professional.

I’ll be looking into another summer outing come 2027. Candlewood CC made a great first impression.

snuck out yesterday, Wednesday, at 2pm and got right out!! My resident card expired and didn't have proper credentials on me to renew, so they charged me $56 to walk non-resident. Oh well. Not a big deal and still worth it.

Quite a bit of work being done to improve conditions all over. The blue tees were set way back for the most part and were in good shape, nice and level. No issues.

Fairways are in good to great shape all around. CPO on holes 1-5 right now, which makes a huge difference in these fairways. But overall, all of them were good to excellent. No problems whatsover. Good roll, good cushion.

Rough isn't too penal for the most part. Just a couple inches longer than fairway and not much of a problem to get the club on the ball. Good coverage for the most part. Mainly bermuda that is still brown in spots.

Found one bunker and it was in good shape, no problems. Nice fluffy sand.

Greens were good to great. They held shots very well. People seem to be fixing their pitch marks for the most part. They were not quite as quick on the downhill as I've seen them, but they rolled true. No complaints.

Snack bar was open for a quick beer at the turn. Customer service in the proshop was awesome as usual. They got me right on out immediately when I showed up without a tee time.

Highly recommend. It's a neat old school course and a tough walk up the 18 fairway.

Played here this morning.

This course was built in 1968 by Jack Fleming (Lake Course and Olympic Club) and Bob Baldock (look him up amazing # of courses familiar to many of us) one of the most prolific post-war course architects in the western United States.

The design is a traditional, walkable layout that routes through the gradual elevation changes surrounding the estuary of the Napa River. Mature trees line many of the fairways, and water comes into play on the majority of the holes.

From the Black tees the course stretches to 6,681 yards with a rating of 72.8 and a slope of 131, providing a solid test for stronger players. Four sets of tees, down to roughly 5,660 yards from the forward markers.

$39 with cart M-F and F-Sun $49 so good value. If you are in the Napa area this is a very good course to play. Especially if you like to walk.

Course is in good shape at the moment.

Tee boxes are all playable.

The fairways have good coverage decent roll out and good lies. Except for hole # 15 which has some issues in the middle of the fairway where grass just not seem to want to grow.

Traps are all clean and playable no issues.

Greens are not large but several are elevated from the fairways and protected by bunkers so good iron play is crucial. They are in great shape and chip/putt just fine.

Both # 8 and # 18 are par 5's that have water and marsh that come into play making it a fun hole for those who want to go for them in two.

Great selection of Par 3's on the course as well.

No houses are on this course and the views of the Napa Valley are great. I will say that the cart paths and carts could use some TLC and updating.

Great customer service in the shop and a small grill has good service as well.

Played in the NCGA Senior Series tournament here on Monday, August 31. Cool day, which was appreciated after the heat in the LA area and in the Central Valley where we spent the weekend. Shotgun start at 8:30 am, we played in around 4:45 hours. Not great but okay for one of these types of tournaments.

I played with two other guys who had also not played here before. We got lost a couple of times but found our way back so no problem; it just seemed some extra signage would have been helpful. The conditions were good. Generally good lies in the fairways and the rough was lush. The rough was not particularly long but we did have to search for balls at times. My playing partners were in several traps and from their shots, they seemed in good shape. I was in one bunker, right greenside on #13 (our last hole of the day), and there was some but not enough sand on the uphill slope I was on.

The greens were interesting. They were in good shape and were fast. They rolled nicely. There was more slope than I expected especially those where the pin was near the edge. They were also firm. I had a 114 yard shot from the fairway to a front pin with a sand wedge. I had great contact but he ball hit the middle of the green and bounced to the back edge. There was also less check on chips than I expected. I had three three-putt bogeys. A little course knowledge would have helped but I do think the greens were challenging.

The pro shop was open but that was it. Thankfully, we were told beforehand that the restaurant was not open so I had coffee and water with me. As it was, tough to gauge the amenities. I did enjoy the course though and the conditions.

Course is in nice shape in all areas.

Tee boxes good and fairways had good coverage good lies and decent roll out.

Rough was not bad and one could easily find their ball and advance it.

Traps were all in good shape and I heard no complaints.

Greens are not as large as Rancho Solano but the do have IMO more undulation and were in great chipping/putting shape all round.

Great customer service in the shop.

This is a great walking course and if one is a member of their Loyalty Tee club the rate is $37.

Nice to have two great courses that are different in design so close together in one city.

Joined the GK crew for the Vivid/Golf Moose event at Candlewood Country Club. First time ever playing here. The course is tucked away in Whittier and I really enjoyed it. The putting contest was a lot of fun, I think we had 4 or 5 guys make the putt and win a Vivid polo. The range is a two tier range, on the left you have a shorter length and on the right you can get up to woods. Overall the course was a great track to play. The tee boxes were a little rough on some of the holes, but not enough to make it impossible to find grass to hit from. The fairways were exactly the grass and cut I like playing off, I call it hitting off a sponge. Every fairway was lush and perfect. The rough was thick and difficult, so much so that sometimes youd have to be standing on top of your ball to even locate it. A few bare areas, but nothing for me to complain about. The bunkers were a little dry and hard in my opinion, maybe thats just how they do the sand here but i think that was my only real complaint. The greens were extremely fast, great challenge. They looks like they had done some work to the greens recently, but it didnt bother me all that much. Overall, this course was fun to play and I would definitely play again if given the opportunity.

Oh and Johnnys group behind us had a hole-in-one!!!!!!

8/31/26- Made it out to the first ever GK/Moose event at Candlewood CC. An older country club(1956) tucked right in the middle of Whittier. The city itself has grown around this country club, and if you did not know where it was you might not know its there. The trees that align the road are thick enough to just get a glimpse, of a sunken down classic style course. I had the honor of playing with JohnnyGK, RGM2525, and Sparky14. This was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had on a golf course. First off, the amenities at Candlewood are really nice, the complimentary coffee at the start and large range were an added touch. The golf carts were newer with GPS and upgraded cushioning. Everything was very clean and well managed.

The course is in great shape. The tee boxes are flat and rather large. They are well maintained. The fairways were in excellent shape, and the greens rolled nicely. Lots of divots, but also the course was going through its normal Monday watering on the members day off. The sand was very good, only one of the traps I ended up in was a little thin, but nothing to complain about. The rough was thick and made it a challenge if you ended up in it.

Candlewood is a tight course with some holes and tee boxes elevated. If you can drive and hit the ball straight you will love this place. A few holes have dog-legs, and on almost every hole there is one tree that is in play. Those trees should not effect you, but they do get in your head.

The highlight of the round was hole 8, where Mr. Sparks(Sparky14) hit a hole-in-one, looking back into the sun. No one thought it went in, but there was a large divot rather close to the hole. Walking up and seeing him discover the ball had dropped in, was worth every penny. It was his first hole-in-one. This is now the second time in the calendar year I have played in a GK event where I saw someone hit their first hole-in-one (JohnnyGK-Dec 26', Las Posas). Nothing like celebrating on the 9th tee box with a cold Pink Whitney followed by an epic hotdog at the turn.

If you get the chance to play Candlewood, do it. I would love to play here again.

Walked the oranges today 8/31/26 at 11:10am with my buddy Matt in 4 hrs under hot conditions around 87 degrees. Nobody out here today we didn't wait until we caught a group on the last couple holes. Friendly staff, putting green closed today with mats on the range. We ate at their restaurant after the round. They have very good food here.

The fairways were in very nice shape mostly all green padded perfect lies with just some brown spots here and there due to the recent heatwave. Rated 8/10

Rough was mowed down and manageable just off the fairways and in great shape. Looks like they are working on the area right of the cartpath on 12...currently a field of dirt.. Rated 8.5/10

Tees all level and lush and in good shape. They were working on 4 tee box and 13 tee box so the markers were up on those holes.

Was in greenside bunkers on 3 and 8 that were raked and looked thin to the naked eye but contained just enough sand underneath. Rated 8/10

The greens were very healthy and VERY slow. They are keeping them long during this heatwave. They are losing a little section of the front section of number 5 green so hope they can remedy that soon. If u like throwing iron darts at soft slow greens these are for you! Rated 6.5/10

Just love the layout here. Hopefully with cooler weather they will cut and roll the greens. Beautiful mixture of 3s ,4s and 5s at Soule!
