Play day was 10/06/26, 10:00am tee time. (But a late post)
Coming off aeration (I don’t know when they started), it looks as though it may need another 10 days to completely heal and start smoothing out again so it may not be fair to give it the rating from that day because I’m sure it’s much better now. Two of their greens complex are out of commission from weather damage for some time now and they’re playing temporary greens since.
The fairways were very good- closely mowed but not much run.
The bunkers played heavy and a bit wet that day.
Teeing grounds were good shape, too.
Pace of play was about 4 hrs and 20 min.
No bev cart but the staff were helpful and no issues.

Late post. October 4, 2026 was when I played.

The club has been a public access course for a while now but it still feels like a private course. There are still plenty of members who are still around. Membership still exist for juniors, weekdays and full membership. A senior rate can be applied to both types and cart inclusions can be modified. As a matter of fact, I joined for a year from May ‘25 through May of ‘26, and it was a great deal.

They’re done with aeration for more than a month now and the greens have recovered quickly from small tine punches.

The fairways are coming back and becoming smoother and being closely mowed. The first or beginning of fairways after the tee box have been redesigned to be barren dirt- it’s aesthetically 50/50 doesn’t look bad but not good either.

The rough are not penalizing and mostly low some may even be rough around the edges and many of those are not in play. The exception is the par 5, #14- they can’t seem to regrow grass from when they let it go after the tee box, but for most, the area is not in play.

The bunkers are surprisingly very fair to play and get out of.

The teeing grounds, most of them are chewed up but you’ll be able to find a spot.

I’d like to add that for the year I was there, the mouth of the greens where many can chip from being short of the green used to be so severely damaged but they’ve corrected that. Recently, they’ve hired a new super from Braemar cc. He has his hands full but I did see many improvements that may not be visible to new guests. Anyw, I hope the good progress continues as I’d like to be a regular there again.

October 8, ‘26 was last I was here.
I meant to drop an update…
The mowers are fix and the fairways are closely mowed again. They’re also cutting the greens nicely and it’s rolling smoothly (10-11) which is nice again.

Played a foursome October 15th as the second group out in 3.5 hours - cart path only. Fairways and greens are in excellent condition. Greens have recovered beautifully from recent areation, are smooth, and run true. Rough is extremely high and some of the toughest I have seen in the San Diego area. Extremely difficult to find balls if you miss the fairway. I have never seen them this high and attribute it to the recent fall maintenance and not being cut. Once they are cut down to a reasonable length it will make for an even better experience. Staff is great, friendly and accommodating. Love the layout! And the price for a Troon course is a great value! Overall, one of my favorites in San Diego County.

Played today on a beautiful weather day for golf.

Tee boxes all clean and playable.

Fairways have great coverage lies rollout on every hole.

Traps were clean and heard no complaints from those who found them.

Rough is 3/4" and higher farther away from fairways and deeper around the greens.

Greens came back from aeration just great. Hold shots release shots and chip and putt just fine.

Great customer service in the shop as always.

$47 w cart Sr rate and value for your money.

Excellent facility in Vallejo with two 18 hole courses.

Played in two day scramble, course in great shape right after overseed. Rough was high and lost balls the norm for the day as Bermuda grass is still not dormant. Fairways were soft and need to dry out after overseed so we had zero roll, Different story greens nice and full but hard as rock, hardly a ball mark in sight. Nice course but not the best place for high handicappers or women as it plays longer than score card, the only ones in our group posting good scores had A players with 270 or more off the tee, if your like me 200 off tee even from front tees left 160 or more to greens all day.

Played 10/14. Course is in OK shape. Greens were pretty good, still healing a little from the punch. Fairways have some rough spots, not very lush. Sand traps were mostly hard with little sand. Biggest issue is chewed up tee boxes. Still worth a play at the weekday prices but I have seen it in much better shape.

Not too much to add to Ratpatrol's review. I showed up around 8:30 on Wednesday and JB in the proshop got me out in 20 mins. So happy. POP was right at 4hrs, great pace. Walking resident rate is always worth it. Just about every aspect of the course is very playable right now. Nothing is horrible, but nothing is really outstanding. I'd say the greens were the best part. Very smooth and got quick when the dew dried up. Held shots well. Everything else is in good condition but not great. Customer service was great, JB in the pro shop and Jason at the starter/cart barn, were great. Always recommend.

Played this AM in just under 4 H. They were doing aerating of the tee boxes. They did the greens early month but no mention of this so it slowed everyone down.

The rest of the course was OK but the fairways and greens were still wet and both of them very soft.

Tee boxes as said aerated during play. Not a good idea.

Fairways had good coverage and good lies but not all of them had good rollout like past weeks.

Rough was not cut recently and was high and difficult to play from.

Greens looked very good for being aerated on 5/6 and were soft so did not release well but they did chip and putt well all round.

Good service from the shop and cart personnel.

Wed is Sr day and for $34 for this course that is a great deal.

Went off at 10:21 on a blustery but warm day. The course was in better condition than I imagined it might be. The mowers were out but the course was wet in spots without much rollout in the fairways. Greens were a tick slower than normal, rough was thick in most areas, bunkers in nice condition. Overall very playable. Torrey is coming out of maintenance so Balboa is the spot for city golf right now.

Played the Vineyard course with two buddies on 10/10, teed off at 7:40. Was looking for a more casual round as was playing with a higher handicapper in the group. Range was the range. Tee boxes and fairways were in good shape. Didn't have any memorably bad lies that were not my own fault. Fringe on Hole 3 was kind of thin at the back of the green, it has always been like that so I recommend putting there. Pace of play was an issue - we finished in about 4:45 due to extremely, extremely slow play by some group 2-3 groups ahead of us. Heading into Hole #9 we saw a 3-group backup, so we took our time on Hole #8.

The slow play really backed up again on Holes 17 and 18. Not sure what the holdup was, but heard the same thing on the range before the round. Course officials to their credit were out and about for each slowdown, and were on the groups ahead of us.

I'm sure the group behind us was tired of waiting for us, but at least it wasn't like that all day. Not bad for muni golf, course conditions were good, greens were in good shape although about to be punched. I know that's kind of odd about the greens as I've seen others complain about them here, but all three of us had some consistent, quality putting, and only saw 2-3 bumpy putts.

The Mountain 18 just closed for overseeding and the Canyon 18 just reopened from over seeding. Lush all around. Greens firm and medium fast. Everything in almost perfect condition first day reopening after over seeding. CPO til the end of October. Recent rains have the course playing softer and longer than usual. 2 yards of roll on drives instead of 20-30 makes a huge difference. Customer service VG and attentive. Played as a single in barely 1H per 9 with few snow birds here yet. Highly recommended.
