Played in a NCGA Senior Series tournament on Monday, July 27, teeing off about 9:30 am. We finished in about 4.5 hours, which was better than I expected and was appreciated considering it was getting pretty hot by the time we finished. Good practice facility. That said, I thought the corner of the practice green they were using was much more sloped than the greens on the course.

I had hoped to pre-play the course with 24hour but I was waitlisted and did not get the call to play until Friday afternoon. So, the round was an adventure. We were playing it from the gold tees at around 5800 yards so we missed much of the trouble on the course. The conditions were very nice. Lush fairways and rough and wild areas outside the rough. Unfortunately, I had trouble with my new driver and found those wild areas more than I would have wished. The sand looked like dirt and played a little heavy but otherwise was okay. The tees were very nice. The greens looked nice and rolled nicely but were slower than expected and did not break as much as I anticipated. They were medium speed.

I really liked the layout and would like to play it sometime from the white or blue tees. If I lived in the area, it would be a regular on my course rotation.

6/30/26- First off in the morning and not a sole around. My father in-law and I whipped through this course in just over 3hrs, and we took our time. When we showed up no one was here. We checked in got a bucket and were off. Carts ran good, bathrooms on the course were very clean, there was no water yet, probably because no one was there...except us.

Right now this course is in major summer heat mode. The tee boxes were in good shape, the fairways were a little thick and the rough was very rough. The humidity creates this problem according to the starter, and they don't cut too much of it until it cools down. The sand was at times ok, but some new sand will be needed when they turn this course around in the fall. The greens overall were in good shape, a little dry but not lighting quick. I saw only one hole (18) with a large dead spot.

Overall, for 50$ I found the price to be ideal. I really like the layout here, and I will come back out to play when conditions are cooler. If you can bare the heat and often the humidity or you love to squeeze in those rounds prior to 10:00AM then I recommend playing Desert Falls CC.

Took advantage of an invite to play Eldorado Park on a rather steamy day. Of all the Long Beach courses, this course has always been the most difficult for me. No criticism of the layout, I just never seem to play well there. The combination of the slow pace and heat I'm sure did not help.

No complaints about the course conditions. I thought the greens were excellent. Rolled true and had nice quick speed. Good coverage in the fairways. Only in one bunker, and it was fine. The only thing that bothers now is the cost. I remember when playing the Long Beach courses were inexpensive - not anymore! But I guess that's true of all golf today. Sad that golf again has become a rich person's sport.

As you know I book a lot of private golf course Monday events working only with clubs that appreciate hosting our group, do an excellent job running our event and treat us friendly. Sunset Hills Country Club leads the way in the friendly category. Their staff goes beyond in making our group feel welcome along with providing full F & B services prior, during and after play.

Monday, 7/27 was another great event with excellent courses conditions and super service.

An interesting aspect of the course is although it was a very hot day, every hole provides escapes from the heat with shade. It made a difference.

Thank you everyone that came out to play. I got to catch-up with a bunch of Greenskeeper.org members I had not seen in a long time. It’s very difficult for me to put on our GK Plays right now because of how booked/expensive weekend golf has become. Running events and seeing GKers is my favorite part of Greenskeeper.org so if you happen to have a Monday free to play, come out to one these Vivid Golf/Golf Moose/GK events…it means a lot to me :)

The greens have received some TLC and look great—no bald patches or GUR. But (presumably because we’re in the middle of summer), they are keeping them extra wet and long, which translates into slow and bumpy. We even had one shot plug into the green (because they were so wet). The rest of the course seems like it is hanging on by a thread. The fairways were decent, the rough is what you’d expect, the bunkers were okay. Every once in awhile, you get a glimpse into what this course used to be (back in the Robinson Ranch days), but the conditioning is simply not what it used to be. The scenery and serenity of the place still make it unique, but don’t expect top tier conditions.

Played today as Wed is Sr day @ $34 all day. Great deal.

Course sits in American Canyon in the hills above Napa. Great scenery with the vineyards, the bay and Napa as well as today all the way to Marin.

The course is always well maintained and today was no exception.

Great layout of 3, 4 and 5 holes that will keep you interested all round.

Tee boxes level clean playable.

Fairways clean good lies rollout.

Rough was playable but there are OB and hazards to avoid throughout the round.

Traps clean and playable.

Greens are good size with undulations and had good speed in them all round. Great shape.

Great customer service in the shop.

Highly recommended especially on Wed if you are a Sr player.

Lucky enough to get to spend another day with the GK/Vivid team this time at Sunset Hills CC in Moorpark. I had never played this course before so I was super excited to get to tee it up from the black tees with my old friends Kevin (kviser) and Andrew (ag2000), along with my buddy Brad. We were also very fortunate to get to play the course in its proper sequence as we were team 1A so it was 1-18 in this shotgun start.

In terms of layout, the front nine is incredibly fun with some gorgeous holes and a fun but not incredibly daunting routing. It's not a long course by any means so it gives you lots of chances to score. The course's main defense is its narrow chutes and landing areas, some blind shots and very fast greens. The back nine is a little more wild with some quirky holes that feel quite alien to the front nine, but it rounds out nicely the last three holes and the finishing hole is a fun one to end your day.

Course conditions? Pretty darn immaculate. Some of the early holes feel like you're up in the mountains just surrounded by lush greenery and such pleasant scenery all around. The golf is almost secondary! But yes, the fairways were just an absolute pleasure to play, and the rough got really grabby and thick in most areas - avoid at all costs! I played out of two bunkers and the sand was very nice and easy to hit from, while all the tee boxes were in good condition.

The greens were really terrific as well ... nothing gimmicky or over the top, but you're definitely going to find some solid breaks and multiple tiers to challenge you on many of them. Others can be quite small and well guarded by bunkers. But once you're on, putting adventures take center stage and you will be rewarded with confident lines, fast speeds and surfaces that are surprisingly good at holding well-struck pitches and chips. In a word - fabulous.

The warmup facilities were modest at best - only part that was open was about three or four stalls at a max distance of 150 yards, but the putting areas were very good. We had cart service come by multiple times so that was great, and other facilities were very well appointed and taken care of - clearly they go out of their way to make this place as good as it can be. And it shows.

Really enjoyed my afternoon at Sunset Hills and very happy to knock off another great local course off the list. Won't think twice if I ever get the opportunity to play here again.

I played here a couple of days ago on July 26. We had an 8:50 tee and I showed up early enough to hit some balls. The first thing I noticed was that the pro shop and restaurant were boarded up with plywood. Apparently some homeless jerk had made a habit of breaking in and vandalizing the premises. I heard that he was eventually caught. Nonetheless business continued as usual. The city of Los Angeles could do a little revamping of these facilities. This is an old golf course and it looks neglected. On the other hand, the course itself is in decent condition. The golf carts are set up with Bluetooth speakers and GPS.

The greens were just okay. Many of the old hole plugs on the front nine (first six holes?) were left too high and the mower had scalped them. Hopefully the greenskeeper who was responsible for these holes has learned his/her lesson. Other than that the rest of the greens were fine. Medium speed and mostly smooth roll.

Fairways, rough, and tees were in typical muni conditions. A little scruffy here and there but mostly decent lies. No real issues throughout the course.

All said, I would play here again.

Good times yesterday at the GK/GolfMoose/Vivid event. Sunset Hills is a beautiful and well maintained private course. Great customer service from the many staff members. The course was very lush and the greens were in great shape. The fairways and rough were mostly a thick mat of kikuyu. It can be tough to find your ball in some of the heavier areas of rough and even tougher to advance it so hitting the fairway is a plus. Pace of play for our group was 4:40 without too much waiting between shots. I found the course to be very challenging and fun. I would play here again.

Rode the blacks today 7/27/26 under hot conditions around 90 degrees with maybe a 5mph wind joined by buddies John, Matt and Matt. Pop was just a tick under 5 hours with about 90-100 players for the Golfmoose event. Staff treated us well. Bar open, cartgirl making her rounds. Only drawback to their practice area is short irons only. Otherwise beautiful 2 putting greens.

Conditions were very lush out there today!

Kikuya lush Fairways that were thick and if u come in too steep on these beauties it could be chunk city. Many fairways here are narrow. Rating these beauties a 8.5/10

Rough was lush Kikuya and even though I had a great chipping day the rough greenside is super lush, nasty. Rated 8.5/10

Tees were mostly level and were lush and nicely padded. 8/10

Was only in one bunker greenside #4 that looked wet and packed on the top surface but had plenty of sand underneath. Rated 7.5/10

The greens were very pure and seemed to look fast to the naked eye but were actually very soft and maybe rolling a 10 on the stimp. They are doing a great job watering them with this heat. Rated 8/10.

Sunset Hills presents small to midsized fairways off the tee with approach shots into smaller greens. Accuracy and ball positioning in the fairway is better than bombing it up greenside on some of the shorter par 4s

Our group thought the conditions were great. Thx Johnny, Golfmoose and Sunset Hills for a great day.

Played an early 6:20am Sunday tee time, in a surprise light rain that was a nice change from the recent heat and humidity. Our twosome was paired with a very pleasant single that was visiting from Denver.

It was my first time playing The Vineyard in about 20 years, so I was surprised that it looks like they flipped the nines. Not sure if I liked that decision, because I really like the stretch of holes that are now 6 thru 9, but I got to admit that 18 is probably a more dramatic finish. Course was in generally good shape, with decent tee boxes and medium-fast receptive greens. The fairway is cut pretty tight and a little bare in some spots. The worst part of the course was the bunkers. The light rain on the first few holes really gave the bunkers a packed mud consistency, but even without the rain it felt like there was barely any sand in the bunkers.

No GPS on the carts, so I was glad I had my golf app and a rangefinder. Didn't see a beverage cart either, and it was starting to heat up around 10:30am on the back nine when the sun started shining through. The handful of par 4s played pretty long from the white tees, I don't often see 400+ yard par 4s from white. This was balanced by the par 3s all being in the shorter 110-130 yd range. The course has two different personalities, with the front nine being fairly flat with some water hazards, and the back nine a little more hilly in a canyon.

Pace of play was 4 hrs and 4 minutes. We couldn't keep up with the group in front of us, but the group behind us were only waiting for us on a couple of holes.


The course is a decent value these days. The range is packed. I believe that members that pay a monthly fee get a deal for a free bucket of balls any time they go to the course. The range does have Trackman cameras going if you want to download their app. I hope not to wait 20 years before playing this course again.

Out early on what I suspect is going to be another hot day, which is just more reason to get out early. However, it seems everybody had the same idea because it was packed at 5:30 in the morning. Greens were the best part of the course, but they were much slower than I recall them being. Overall, good coverage in the fairways. Bunkers were not yet maintained and were mostly compacted dirt/mud. Areas around the bunkers were in need of trimming. Missed not seeing Ruth in the pro shop today, but staff was friendly and helpful.
